Forums - PC Discussion - GXT 11 Series Not Coming Soon

It seems rather typical, considering that they could release them this year, but they likely won't as there is no pressure put on them via AMD.

Still, I've got my 1080ti, so I'll be waiting to see how the 1180 performs, as well as the eventual ti variant.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

not like it matters that much. the 1050ti, which is considered a budget graphics card, already has enough power to play some pretty high end games

Well, some journalists have said that board partners still haven't been given details about the new chips, so it's not too surprising. But we also have to remember that this is a sector where "not coming soon" or "it's a long time", doesn't have to mean the same as in the real world. Plus its a PR meeting, with all it means.

I can still see Nvidia launching the new cards (only in Founders Edition versions) in September, with board partners having to wait until the end of the year to launch their custom products.

To me September isn't that long. So do you really think it could be these cards that Jensen Huang refers to when he says "it's a long time from now".

I am afraid September will bring us refresh cards who are 8% faster than 1080Ti, while Huang in his quoted statement refers to a proper architectural and significant increase like one year from now.

Well, first of all, of course Huang had to say that the cards were still a long time away! They still have 10xx cards to sell, now that the mining craze is taking a break. And there's also the fact that "it's a long time" is a very subjective statement. Now that E3 is coming, I'm sure you've noticed how some people are so excited about it that even having to wait 1 or 2 days is too far away for them.

That's why I said that a September (or thereabout) release could be possible.

Also, with a new architecture, 12nm and GDDR6, we could still see a nice jump in performance.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

"12 nm" is just another iteration of the 20 nm node. Ten years ago, everyone would have been damn embarassed by calling it 12 nm, which isn't even an ITRS node name.

The only chance this is really good and not merely a larger Pascal is another Kepler -> Maxwell surprise, but sudden improvements are less and less likely as time goes by (though Nvidia have been developing the Volta architecture for quite a longe time, so...).

Still I also expect it to release by September or so at latest, unless Nvidia has some insider knowledge the next node shrink is going to take longer than expected, and thus are stretching over time what they have. It's not like they delay products because they are comfortable on the market or their stuff still sells, it would be surprising and disappointing if they suddenly became another Intel (as people think Intel does, at least).

8k is 33~ million pixels.
4k is 8~ million pixels.
1080P is 2~ million pixels.

33/8 is 4~ million pixels. So are you running 2560x1600 or 2560x1440?
Didn't think a Geforce 960 would have the guts to smash those resolutions, the old RX 580 struggled sometimes at 1440P and that is a decent step up.

Not exactly. But you are correct it most certainly is not an actual real 12nm process.
Fabs tend to make adjustments to the BEOL/FEOL in a tic-toc fashion, I guess it makes development easier.

Nope. No movement from AMD - no new cards! I'm stuck with Pascal for another year! >:[

Now I feel relieved. Great analysis about time and how it's very contextual and subjective hehe.

And also that Huang has to say like he did so the sales of the 1000-series don't hault. It wouldn't be very smart to say "it's a short time from now" lol

Btw JEMC it says in your profile that you own a 1070. I member that you bought a 970 only about 1.5-2 years ago, and a bit later we had a discussion in the PC thread about how you lacked money because of your mom and you needing to go to the dentist.

How come you decided to upgrade from 970 to a 1070 in a gaming lull (meaning that games aren't very demanding to run in 1080p) and when did you do it?
