Seems like MS has opened up and acquired other studios that we dont know of right now. Gonna add to the OP.

Seems like finally a good push on the right direction.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

17 years late but better now than never.

If true, than it will be good to see xbox bringing competition and making some good games. Peharps in 3-5 years they will show some promising new game like horizon and GoW.

Prediction: In 5 years Nintendo will Lauch a "Core Mario game"  very similar to Astro Bot. That said, many will Ignore Astro Bot existence and say Nintendo created this concept.

Honestly, I thought they were owned by Microsoft already anyway...

Add me to this list of people. I'm very surprised they didn't own them already.

You can add me too. I already thought MS owned them. Looks like they learned from the Bioware/Mass Effect situation.

Should’ve done this years ago. Now it’s way too late for this gen, but better late than never I guess. That said not exactly sure it’s a good thing for the studios considering other Microsoft owned studios’ fate in the past.

Yep, after several years of Phill promises it seems like he finally started putting the effort, now is wait and see what they will launch, probably MP games, but that is their focus anyway and the fans seems to like.

Phil was recently promoted to the MS board of directors. Before Xbox was under the wing of the Windows division so Phil had to go to the head of that division and that guy had to report to Nadella. There were rumors that the head of the Windows division stopped many of the things Xbox wanted and was holding them back. So with Phil actually at the head of MS gaming initiative this time I hope he can grow their first party.

Playground has worked only ever worked with Microsoft since it was formed and IMO Forza Horizon 3 is the best racing game this gen and was incredibly successful, Forza Horizon 4 is going to be incredible. This move made a world of sense and now MS has 2 AAA studios, just hope that the Fable team isn't forced to work on only one franchise going forward.

There will always be someone above, but he have been on a very strong position for over 10 years, and as head of Xbox and also promissing increased 1st party for like 5 years.

But as I said, a very good step on the right direction with 4 new studios/team

Does anyone else think it's slightly strange than England has so many studios that create driving / racing games? Why would they have such a high number of studios that focus on one genre?
