Forums - Sony Discussion - Official Sony PlayStation E3 2018 Thread

Hmmm...I actually kind of liked Sony's press conference overall, tbh. Which is, you know, something rare for me to say. I'm usually more interested in smaller, independently-developed games and maybe one first-party release on a secondary level or something, but I like where Sony appears to be going in general right now.

With the new trailer, The Last of Us: Part II went from being a game that I was highly interested in to being I'd say honestly the most anticipated release ever for my part. I was drawn in from the second the trailer began and couldn't stop wanting to see more! Don't want to be dramatic, but I think TLOU2 is going to be a very emotional game for me.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the Death Stranding trailer! I mean definitely to a lesser degree (an order of magnitude really) than TLOU2, but still, where last year's Death Stranding trailer just seemed like utter nonsense, now it looks like there is actually some kind of coherent vision to it, though I can't yet adequately make out what it is obviously. It has some really weird quirks (the portable fetus / baby in a jar, is it?...weirded me out a little in particular; kinda took me out of the moment briefly), but I'm sensing that there's a heartfelt point to it all now. Or most of it at least. I really liked the ambience and the just general isolation type of feel to most of the trailer and the ghost mystery surrounding apparently the protagonist's deceased wife. (Maybe I'm interpreting the trailer wrong, but that's what it seemed like was going on to me.) I'm interested now, where I wasn't before!

I also liked the trailers for Control and Deracine as well (especially the latter), though a little less than what I saw of TLOU2 and Death Stranding.

I thought the way that they did the press conference -- the format -- was weeeiiirrdd, but, like with Nintendo's 2013-14 E3 events, weird isn't necessarily bad, IMO. It seemed like an intimate and heartfelt presentation! I liked it! I definitely liked it better than what I saw of Microsoft's, which seemed very corporate, traditional, buttoned-down, like 'we are the ESPN of video games!' anyway. It may be an unconventional opinion, but I liked that Sony decided to let their hair down a little. And they have the right focus for a games hardware + software company: games. Exclusive games. Not expensive future hardware (like Microsoft) or gimmicks (like Nintendo's Labo). First-party games. Many of which have not just fuuuuuuuuuun on offer, but actual stories too, it would very much appear.

QUALIFICATION: Have not seen Nintendo's show yet!

The conference was horrid. I really don't get why they said they were going to have a big dive on those 4 games? They showed the same content as they usually do in previous E3 regarding their 1st party games. I was expecting more gameplay explanation in Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding. But we got $hit and then, they only showed 5 or so 3rd party titles. That was so LAME! .

I was very disappointed, the pacing and how they structure the conference was so awful, specially the beginning with the dudes of the PSBlog. I was expecting THAT big dive to justify the new format; I wanted to see Kojima explaining the game after the trailer and give us more context at least.

Ghost of Tsushima and Spiderman were superb, those 2 along with the reveal of RE2 saved the conference from being and epic failure.

Are people really trying to say Sony is sitting on their asses because of this? Really?
Just now they have 3 new big IPs in full development with a lot of gameplay shown and one looking better than the other (Days Gone, Dreams, Ghost of Tsushima).
Their other studios just came out from stuff as Horizon and God of War. Plus GT Sport that wasn't that hot. The others have announced sequels (Naughty Dog), collabs (Japan Studios) or in working stages of development. They also just got one of the most wonderful remakes ever released with Shadow of the Colossus contracted with Bluepoint. They even finished The Last Guardian.
They are working close with very talented people (Hideo Kojima) and studios (Insomniac) to bring high quality exclusives from outside too.
What fucking else do you guys expect them to announce at this point of time? (Aside of a dream like The Legend of Dragoon)
Sony is sitting on its ass? The PS4 is leaps and bounds better than the PS3 in every sense. Even than the PS2.
Get your act together.

They showed the same content as they usually do in previous E3 regarding their 1st party games.  I was expecting see Kojima explaining the game after the trailer and give us more context at least, or the director of TLOU2 explaining WHERE THE FU(K is Joel; or more explanation of the combat of Ghost of Tsushima.

Considering what they said they were going to show (BIG DIVE) it was an utter disappointment.

Having said so, Ghost of Tsuhima and Spiderman were phenomenal along with the RE2 reveal.  But still those are the things you would expect on a normal E3, NOT IN A "BIG DIVE"

EDIT they are streaming RE2 GAMEPLAY on Live.playstation.com..... WHY THE HELL THEY DID NOT SHOWED THIS AT THE CONFERENCE!!!! I dont know what Sony is thinking!!!

Bolded: No (at least I'm not).

I rated it 7/10 which is not a bad score at all but still with room for improvement. In my opinion Sony had the winning formula in 2015 and 2016. Here we had a constant flow of varied and interesting games back to back. I don't want them to focus only on the big and proven 3rd party action games. I'm a PlayStation gamer because of the variety.

TLOU2 is the game I'm looking forward to the most and it had an awesome gameplay reveal but I think the overall conference would've been a lot more interesting if they'd shown more games. They could've secured more 3rd party premieres like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Devil May Cry V, Cyberpunk and Shadow of the Tomb Raider as well as show gameplay from already announced games like Spyro, MediEvil Remake, the secret Bluepoint game, Babylon's Fall, FF7 Remake, Shenmue 3, Yakuza 6, Ace Combat 7, Dead or Alive 6, GT Sport's Summer update, Concrete Genie, Blood and Truth, Déraciné, etc.

My "What Should Have Been/Hindsight is 20/20" Sony press conference:

1. The Last of Us II gameplay

2. VR segment - Tetris Effect, Ghost Giant, and Beat Saber

3. Days Gone release date announcement and Dreams beta announcement

4. Ghost of Tsushima gameplay

5. Black Ops 4 remastered maps and Destiny 2 expansion

6. Death Stranding trailer

7. Control, Nioh 2, and RE2 announcements + KH3 trailer

8. Spider-Man gameplay

And then, you cut to Sid Shuman for the post-show. No intermission.

Did anyone else notice that banjo was tuned like a guitar?

Why isn't the forum allowing me to +like this or give you an agree or a thumbs up?

Honestly, PS4 is destroying all other PS consoles for me, personally. I know PS2 was far more successful, but PS4 hasn't really had any gaffes, and 10 years from now I bet the PS4 will still be great while we'll be hesitant to play PS2 games.

Other than The Order and Knack 1 & 2, Sony's 1st party offering have been near perfect.

These last two conferences by Sony isn't arrogance or Laziness it's that fact that they blew their wad for the rest of PS4 in terms of announcing games from at least their 1st party, It's obvious that they are in the process of transitioning to the PS5 and Ghost/LoU2/Death Stranding are going to be cross gen games.
