germany felt too overconfident...their substitutions could have risked them conceding another goal.
Sweden - Korea Republic 2-0
Belgium - Panama 3-0
Tunisia - England 0-1
I’m hoping Belgium is at least one (semi-)favorite that doesn’t disappoint.
Sweden - Korea: 2-1
Belgium - Panama: 3-1
Tunisia - England: 0-2

The common expectation I've been seeing over many years is that there should be teams that more or less dominate a tournament from start to finish, but that's something that is only very rarely the case. The important thing to remember about the group stage is that teams can afford to play draws or suffer one loss. Teams that looked dreadful on matchday 1 can turn it around, teams that looked good can falter. All of the big favorites for the title struggling so far is actually a good thing for impartial viewers. A slap in the face that humbles players makes it more likely that they will try to play to their fullest potential, plus the necessity to score goals spices up the group stage. |
That’s true. It happened in the recent past too. Spain lost to Switzerland in the first match of the 2010 WC and then they got their shit together. I hope you’re right and the favorites try their best and up their games as a result.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
Germany decided to remember how to play in the second half, but Mexico got away with a well deserved victory, they worked their ass off through the match, playing well from the start and being good at defending the advantage after they scored.
I fear Costa Rica sealed its fate in this World Cup with the loss against Serbia, having to face against a Brazil in need of a win on their next match doesn't look like a promising future.
For tomorrow:
Sweden 1 - 0 Korea
Belgium 3 - 0 Panama
Tunisia 1- 2 England
Sweden vs Korea Republic 2-0
Belgium vs Panama 4-1
Tunisia vs England 0-3

It can happen. However, favorite teams more often tank - such as England, Italy and Spain the last world cup in 2014, France and Italy in 2010, Argentina and France in 2002 - than "get their shit together" and end up wining a world cup.
Germany played nothing today, a team with better finishers would have made a few more goals. Great for Mexico!
Funny thing is that Germany "B" team last year beat Mexico 4.-1 in the confederations cup

After Germany lost Brazil were never going to play to win. A draw is a safe bet for them. They don't want to be top of table and Germany second and suddenly they have to play them in the round of 16.
