And another giant performs poorly, that's France, Argentina and Germany now showing us some pretty shit football. The Germans were organized but had zero precision in finishing and they left huge gaps on the midfield for the Mexicans to make crazy taco truck runs all night long. Why are these great teams having such trouble controlling the midfield against sides that should be obviously weaker in all aspects of play? I think some managers need to rethink what appears to be overly ambitious formations with too much focus on slapping the ball around on the final third of the pitch, this German side against Iceland's 10-0-0 formation would have accomplished even less...

After that defeat Mexico suffered against Denmark, I was genuinely expecting a 3/5-0 from Germany, but I guess the Germans' defeat against Austria effectively showed that they're lacking in some areas.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

meh, I went too soft - I knew our german team was total shit this year, so I should have predicted the Mex win

So Germany's loss or Mexico's win?

Both, the Mexican's gave the Germans the business and the German defence looked like they forgot their country's signature organisation.

Yaaay ! Congrats Mexico !

Germany deserved the win. 2nd half was much, much stronger than the first and they were leagues ahead of Mexico. That free kick by Kroos should have been in, as well as that shot from Brandt towards the end. Also there were many dangerous situations by Müller and Reus. All could have been goals if they were a little bit more precise. The 2nd half was a nonstop attack on the mexican goal with only a few counters in between of which only one was dangerous when they were 2vs1, but the Mexicans seemed to be surprised themselves since they weren't able to pass the ball properly.

I may be salty as fuck right now but even when I am trying to be as objective as possible, Germany should have won.

Bla bla la yada yada. All talk and no goals, still. A win is a win, congrats Mexico.

Happy Mexico won.

Looking back at the goal, man, that defending was dreadful. Özil barely made an effort to stop Lozano and Kroos took forever to arrive.

It wasn't the Austria game, the German team consistently performed very poorly in the past weeks/months.

Given that Mexico is one of the best teams world-wide, and did exactly what was known before, the blame fully lays on the German coach who seems to have lost any intuition and planning that lead to his many successes in the past. No surprise at all that Germany lost, and I doubt they will pass into the next stage given there does not seem to be any plan on their side. Sounds brutal but that's the way it is.

Germany's previous losses should have been a warning. I thought they would win.
