Forums - Sony Discussion - The lack of arcade racers is an eyesore.

This is a funny fake leak, but I still think PlayStation is in need of a good Kart racer. One like MarioKart, with actual little karts and good physics as well as being family friendly. Nintendo has the greatest family friendly arcade racing game, it is a constant top seller in the sales charts for many many years now. Posted a screenshot of Amazon's highest rated on the 1st page of this thread showing MarioKart 8 WiiU. When we look at Amazon's top selling games today, MarioKart 8deluxe is still above all others. Even MarioKart Wii is still selling and can be found in the the top 100 games being sold. Why are they not making game like it? It's the most evergreen title on the planet. Anyone that even closely comes close to making something like it would probably get taken to court so fast their eyes would spin. Everyones scared of Nintendo when it comes to making games like theirs and even Nintendo is having a hard time trying to be original. They just re-released the same game here.

Well, driveclub sold 2 million by mid-2015, so I wouldn't call it a commercial flop.

DC is also not an arcade racer. its a semi sim

you classify Forza Horizon as arcade racer, but not DC ? curious

I miss the days of good Twisted Metal games. Twisted Metal Black was awesome online and offline.

We can only hope that Twisted Metal is one of the IP's Sony is revisiting with this first party restructure. Twisted Metal with a full budget and destructable environments on PS5, imagine that. A shame Sony only really sees the value in their third person cinematic games.

is there a "racing" aspect to Twisted Metal? I haven't played any, but from the videos I watched it always looked like it's more of a free for all arena battle with "cars"

Not really there is a fair amount of them and The Crew 2 is being released pretty soon. Also Horizon is more of a simcade racer then arcade racer since you can upgrade and tune all the cars. You can also do that in the Crew but the overall handling of the cars is more arcady then the cars in Horizon plus they way you obtain parts and upgrades is more arcady.

Horizon is arcade. Nothing sim in it.

OP There are tons of arcade racers on the system. NFS: Rivals, NFS, NFS: Payback, Driveclub, Ride, Ride 2, The Crew, Flatout 4, MXGP, Nascar. You only have to look at it.

Most of the examples listed are utter shit compared to what we had in the 6th and 7th gens.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Well... they closed studio liverpool, so... no more wipeout. They just ported what they already had for the omega collection. Omega as in last...

But theres an indie game coming up called grip that is the sucessor of Rollcage... that Sony didn't want to finance i suppose.

It's the sad part of today's market. If its not a huge seller they don't care. I miss the times when the market wasn't this cynical.

Those arcade racers like ridge Racer pgr etc them days are gone. It's a shame as arcade titles are well worth your money. You will only get download titles like that now no retail ever again.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

and none of them are great games.  half of these are semi-simulators

They are not semi suims just because the cars have some weight to them. They are so far removed from reality its wrong to call them semi simulators. F1 games from Codemasters and the Grid games would be semi sims. Not these games.

You asked for games. I gave you a bunch of them. If they are good is upto taste.

Onrush is coming and looks good. Take a look at it.

Onrush afaik isn't much of a racing game, there is no incentive to be the first, you want to be in the pack and ram/take down members of the other team or pick up time extensions for your team etc

Nobody mentioned Trackmania Turbo yet? We don't need more arcade racers, interest is so low the ones we have slip through the cracks anyway. Plus GTA5 is still very popular and offers arcade racing.

Onrush doesn't look very appealing to me yet maybe it has something. Wipeout in VR is good at least. A proper Burnout and Motorstorm would be great yet we can't have arcade racers without some kind of twist anymore. NFS seems to have finally killed itself trying to find a new hook.

Arcade racers used to be hard, yet hard is out. Without it being hard the fun has left as well.

And so is Forza Horizon especially on the X1 since you can upgrade and tune all the cars.  The fist two on the 360 are closer to being pure arcade racers since you can only upgrade the cars but there is no tuning.

If you really believe there is nothing sim about the Horizon games then you truly clueless about racing games.
