Forums - Microsoft Discussion - MS to do the "Halo, Gears, Forza" formula again?

FH3 is great and I'm really looking foward to FH4. I need a new Halo game since I've been craving some Halo lately. Gears is meh, will play it on gamepass.

i love the horizon series and its the best racer out there for me.

I love Gears of War and the last one was pretty damn good considering low expectations, but the coalition devs are doing some good work, much better than 343.

I love Halo more than any game series, i would love to see it at E3 this year and will be very disappointed if nothing is announced for halo, besides some damn arcade machine.

I expect surprises, MS has been holding things close to the chest, not announcing them 2-3 years in advance. Fable, i think we might see a teaser of a reboot. I would lose it if a miracle happened and Sunset Overdrive 2 was announced, though i highly doubt it, im rambling onto a wish list now.

plus gamepass, it will all be for $10 to try for a month. you cant beat that.

Im just glad what will be shown will not be 3 years away. if they stay with the current format.

So if reddit-user SoMeh's leaks turns out to be true, MS are going to announce (yet) another Halo, Gears and Forza game on E3 this year.

The same user also said Sunset Overdrive 2 is going to be announced, but with Insomniac working on Spider-Man for PS4 I remain highly sceptical on this one.

But if those leaks about Halo, Gears and Forza turns out to be true, how would you react? Aren't xbox gamers looking for new franchises at this point, or do you think another entry in the same three franchises is enough?

I would love a new Halo game this year as for Forza and Gears, i can wait alittle longer.

Aslong as there good games i dont mind.

Also lets not forget Ori 2 and the possible rumours of a Banjo Remake and PD2 game.

Besides MS arent just going to showcase Halo, Gears and Forza. There E3s are alot bigger than that.

Last year, their E3 was so big, I missed it totally.

All I know for certain is that once I get my gaming laptop, I’ll be playing any MS exclusives I’m interested in on that.

lol well what other formula do they have? xD

A new proper Fable please.

The "newness" of a franchise is overrated, as far as I'm concerned. If the game plays well, it can belong to an evergreen series for all I care. Xbox beat its closest competitor PlayStation between 2006 and 2008 with pretty much only three series: Halo, Gears, and Fable. Heck, Nintendo "won" 2017 with Mario Kart, Super Mario, and the Legend of Zelda -- three series with a combined 91 years of history behind them. If a game is good, it's good.

The problem with Microsoft 2012-present isn't that it increasingly relies on the same IPs; it's that its games haven't been very good. I think 2016 was a really promising rebound, with Gears 4 and Horizon 3, but then 2017 was probably the worst Xbox year since its inception. 2018 so far has been nothing special either.

If I had anything to say about it, I'd do the following:

  • Keep Gears and Forza as is -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it
  • Fix Halo -- this should be the flagship franchise, but it's floundered for six years under 343
  • Reboot Fable -- with so many deadly serious RPGs on the market, a subversive, tongue-in-cheek action-RPG would really stand out
  • Revivify Perfect Dark -- you're the online-focused, shooter-centric platform, so play to your strengths
  • Close Rare and hand out its properties, minus Perfect Dark, to smaller A and AA studios -- Rare is overstaffed, unwieldy, and seemingly incapable of making even competent games, but its stable of IPs is among the best in the business
  • Take on the odd third-party exclusive -- forging partnerships with studios like Insomniac or Remedy might not pay off in the short term, but will expand the attractiveness of the ecosystem in the long term.

To be clear, Microsoft needs to do none of this. Despite a dearth of worthwhile exclusives, the Xbox brand is pulling in a lot of money. Xbox brass doesn't care if the system is #1, #2, or #3 in the monthly charts, as long as profits are good.

Well, I think we are bound to hear about those games, since its been long enough since last we got a game from said franchises, but hopefully mS has new stuff in store, either by the ways of new IPs or revival of old ones.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

With Forza Horizon being my favourite racing game series at the moment i'm basically waiting for the fourth one. Only a whole new F-Zero or Wave Race might be better (for me).
Halo 6, well, i'm waiting for it and hoping the campaign gets better. And honestly, there's nothing wrong with sequels. I'd love a new Sunset Overdrive like many others did.

But MS needs new IP's as well. They don't need new stuff instead of the older IP's, they simply need both. And it mus be more and better with Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 being more or less underwhelming.

It doesn't need to be big every time though. I really enjoyed ReCore, even though it was very far from perfect. Other smaller to mid budget games, but please more polished than ReCore, would be great.

I did plug my One back in a month ago and do all the updates. Haven't played anything on it yet, though. Halo 6 would at least get me to use the system again. I've given up on Alan Wake 2 :(
