Also, I'm still not convinced that pokemon let's go will appeal to many of those who downloaded the (free) game on their smartphones.

It is interesting to think, how many of those Pokemon Go players (who are new to the series / didn't buy the handheld games) own a Switch? How many are willing to put down $299 on a console and $60 on a game to get more Pokemon Go.

Are the people the game is aimed at willing to shell out money for it? And do they even want another game or are they content with what they have?

Trying to attract players of a free to play mobile game to buy a console and full-priced title may not be the best way to go, who knows.

It literally falls down to how many Pokemon Go players will bite on the Lets Go games. Smash is great...but it's not winning any holidays. PS4 is gonna have the usual suspects and with that install base, it's gonna be tough to beat.

Smash is bigger than 3D Mario, I'm not sure why you think it can't carry a holiday.

Not just that, but Pokemon is bigger than any other Nintendo IP. :D

Dominate? No. Be number 1 globally? Maybe, yes - but not by a huge margin. I suspect Nintendo are banking on a massive Christmas quarter and a big second half for their current financial year, given the first two quarters have no major sellers confirmed yet (Apr-Sep). Entirely probable we'll see Smash sneak into the first half and launch in September alongside the online subscription. Add Pokemon in November and you have two titles that will shift 10 million copies or even more in that quarter and provide a substantial boost to hardware sales. I'd expect see some bundles and Black Friday deals, too.

All evidence points to Switch being popular and providing a boost to major Nintendo franchises (Zelda, Kart, Splatoon, Odyssey). If that holds with Smash and Pokemon, Nintendo are set for a big six months starting in September/October, and a potentially huge Christmas quarter.

Dominate No.

Slightly ahead or slightly behind the PS4 yes.

Yeah but it's not winning the holiday by itself... that never has happened guys. And I'm aware of how big Pokemon is but COD is even bigger than Pokemon. Fifa is almost as big if not bigger than Pokemon. (And yes, I know FIFA 19 is on Switch, but it's not selling 10M units like the PS4 version) You have to be level headed here. I didn't say it couldn't carry a holiday, but rather it alone can't win a holiday against Sony. Microsoft for sure though.

COD is nowhere close to Pokémon.

We have facts here. Not VGCchartz facts.

Pokémon outsold, outgrossed, out mobile COD both in hard sales and yearly revenue.

Fortnite the biggest thing on earth right now couldn’t even outgrossed Pokémon Go.

Pokemon Go made 3.5 billion US dollars?

I forgot fornite is also on pc lol but it grossed more not mobile version tho.

Pokemon grossed 3.3 billion $ in 2016

EA 4.4 billion $

Nintendo 4.19 billion $

only 2016 numbers because that’s the only number I find for Pokémon. As you can see here, does EA own fifa? Because Pokémon is about as big as EA and Nintendo itself.

and people keep asking why Pokémon do its own thing and why Nintendo haven’t bought Pokémon entirely and use a different team (not Gamefreak) for the games because they CANT.

Does COD really boost hardware sales significantly every year? I know it sells incredibly well as does FIFA and Battlefield but since they're not exclusives and yearly titles, I never saw them as big hardware sellers (especially in the later years on a console). I could be wrong though, it's just an impression.
