Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales (Week 21): Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki - May 21-27, 2018

That's a very good result for Detroit. It sold significantly better than Heavy Rain and Beyond in physical sales alone.

Another factor that benefits the Switch this coming holiday vs the previous is that there won't be any availability problems.

That's why I picked November-December. Weren't the stock issues mostly resolved by then? There weren't any weeks of 20-30k in those months. The lowest week in those two months was the first week of November with 65k. Compare that with the week of Oct 22 which had 30k.

No, it had pretty big stock issues in Nov/Dec last year.

The amount it sold on a weekly basis has nothing to do with stock issues, it could sell 1,000 or 1,000,000. If there are more people looking for one than there are systems available than it has stock issues regardless of sales.

I’m thinking from software was paid extra from Sony to delay the Switch version for this reason right here. Though not by much, it would slow the shrinking PS4/Switch sales gap.

I mean, if you have any sources I'll read them but I have a hard time believing that there was any sort of severe shortage. Almost every week the Switch progressively sold more and more. Usually the opposite is true when there are big stock issues.

If Sony were bothered by the Switch and ps4 sales gap in Japan they'd have given it a much needed price cut last holiday in Japan. Instead they kept the high price point knowing that monster Hunter would sustain sales for the first half of this year regardless so more profit. You have to remember the ps4 is still up 200k yoy. It will be a good few months before it's back to even.

If Sony want strong holiday sales to keep the overall 2018 sales good then they will give it a long over due price cut sometime later this year. That plus kh3 will do the job.

Sorry my phone sucks when it comes to posting links but many of the Media Create threads on Resetera over the holidays talked about stock issues.

Also it was stated in the investor Q&A on Feb 1 that stock in Japan was finally approaching the level where anybody can purchase one.

Like i said, number of units sold has nothing to do with stock issues, the number of people trying to buy one compared to number available is what determines stock issues.

And yes of course sales/stock went up over the holidays as production ramps up during that time.

Glad fans voted with their wallets on Persona, the way they've handled those games has been really poor.

What was wrong with them? I haven't followed them at all. I know that these look like half of the Persona 4 Dancing Vita.

No story mode, tonnes of DLC announced before the games have even released, multiple SKU's which confuses buyers.

Oh cool. We got some Famitsu digital numbers for April as well.

Dead by Daylight: 76,577
Far Cry5: 33,338
PawaPro 2018 (PS4): 32,339
Mad Max: 28, 432
Super Robot X (PS4): 21,963
God of War: 16,636
Cities Skyline: 14,032
MHW: 11,428
Kirby Star Allies: 9,913
Meta Max XENO (PS4): 8,982

That digital ratio for Cities Skylines is pretty crazy. It sold 20k retail in April per Famitsu so that's more than 40% copies sold digitally.

God of War's digital sales are ok. Mad Max must have been on sale. While the ratio for SRW isn't noteworthy, this type of niche game typically has very little digital adoption. That's not bad at all.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting 20k for SRW digitally, so that surprised me as well.
