Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokémon Core Series RPG is set for second Half Of 2019.

I just hope the new core game gets away from all the simple child friendly level designs and stories from Sunmoon. I want heavy concepts, with tricky levels to navigate, and characters that are all unique sounding and looking. In SM you just go against the same team members like the whole time and it's so boring!

Game Freak acknowledges that most Pokemon fans are kids rather than adults. Incorporating any complex level designs that are difficult to navigate would alienate a large chunk of Pokemon fans. I can see Let's GO as being a way to separate those fanbases where Let's GO will be a primarily casual experience with plentiful hand-holding and nostalgia-pandering to introduce or reintroduce people to the series. Especially with the simplified catching mechanics.

Gen 8, imaginatively, will be a core game that appeals to traditional fans and will eliminate the hand-holding Sun and Moon had, with traditional catching mechanics and progression. Although I won't bet on the idea of there being an improved storyline or more intricate locations. I could see there being less-linear progression though, given that there won't be much hand-holding. Again, this is speculation, but it would be ingenious of Game Freak to have developed these Let's GO spinoffs for the casual crowd, and keep the continuing Gens for veterans. Then once casual fans have had their fix on Let's GO and are interested in trying a main series game, Gen 8 might be for them.

Open World is coming everyone, Let's Go is the trampoline needed to step up development for HD

Ah, you're just concerned with how ambitious it is. I just care that it's actually good, but what would be a proper Pokemon RPG to you then?

Why tho? You acknowledge that they're two versions of the same game, just a few differences in Pokemon availability while everything else is exactly the same .

Given that it's on a console, and given what we have already seen on the Switch then it would mean a 3D open world, with a huge map, detailed levels, a whole new camera option for the battles, difficulty levels, making the best Pokemon harder to catch, and more. I also think that it's time to have unique Pokemon traits, such as Squirtle that's a bit resistant to Electricity and such.

I'd be hella down for open world as anyone would, but Gamefreak isn't the most ambitious developer so I just don't want to expect it. Apparently the 2019 game has been in development since before the Switch launched, meaning atleast 3 years total which should be enough time to make such a game but eh. We'll find out next year!

Now that that is taken care of, what is going to be the big NEW AAA Nintendo game this year? Genuine question.

If they have Yoshi and Fire Emblem in addition to Smash and Pokemon why would they need anything else?

To me, Yoshi and Fire Emblem are AA games. Metroid Prime 4 would be AAA but that isn't confirmed. I totally forgot about SSB when I made my original post, so I guess that answers my question. Though I don't care for the series all that much. The only one I ever liked was Melee.

So for me, it's Metroid Prime 4 or bust. I'm really hoping it comes out this year.

Just forget Metroid this year, there is no chance. And i wouldn't be shocked if Metroid slips to 2020

Too bad the game isn't coming this year.
The Go game looks interesting, but i'm not interested in playing Pokémon Go at home. Quest… will try it, but still...

Confirmed that the 2019 games will not be influenced by Pokemon Go.

Hopefully the wait would mean that they put A LOT of effort into it!
