Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: REmake 2 will use RE engine in 1080p/native 4K, may combine OTS and fixed camera, E3 2018 reveal possible

After all this time, we finally have our first bit of data on how REmake 2 is progressing. As the article notes, take this with a grain of salt (as with any rumors/leaks). However, according to a Rely on Horror source close to the game's development, this may be the most ambitious RE title yet with a potential E3 2018 reveal in the cards, and that's just the short version of it.

  • Game will utilize RE7's RE engine. Photogrammetry scanning will be used, but said to be greatly improved upon from RE7, making for perhaps the most visually impressive Capcom game yet.
  • Game will run at 30 FPS and 1080p on standard PS4s and 60 FPS and native 4K on PS4 Pro.
  • Game will load at different resolutions every time you enter a room.
  • Characters will be made to more closely resemble their original game counterparts despite using the RE engine (we all saw the confusion it caused with RE7's Chris).
  • Will feature a TON of new content and areas from the original.
  • Said to be inspired from RE4's OTS camera, but more "stylized". One interpretation is that it may be a combination of the original RE2's fixed cams while traversing Raccoon City and RE4-6's OTS while aiming.
  • Devs who worked on RE2 and RE4 are said to have been brought in as outside contractors to work on the game.
  • Will still be very horror-focused despite the RE4-influenced camera.

Keep in mind that this is coming from a source close to the project, so this is about as legitimate as it gets as far as leaks/rumors are concerned. From the sound of it, it feels like they're giving this the same level of care that they put into MHW, which means the sky's the limit for this game IF this is to be believed. You never know with Capcom, though.

I with they used the 1st person perspective of RE7.

As much as I liked the first person perspective of RE7, this is a REmake (no pun intended) of a classic fixed cam game.

Simply put, if it ain't broke, don't fix it (read: don't fuck with nostalgia).

I could see them using something akin to the original build of RE4 where it frequently shifts between OTS and fixed cam TBH:

I don't think it would do REmake 2 justice to give it a 1st eprson view. The original, like 1 and 1 REmake, were displayed with fixed camera angles, and it's what I expect REmake 2 to go with.

They should however, give options for how you control the characters like they did for REmake remaster.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

This sounds like this game is going to be excellent.

About the complaints that there are around the internet about not being in fixed camera:I understand, but at the same time, they want to go with something that gives them more creative freedom and an over the shoulder view is much less restrictive than a fixed camera angle. And I do love the fixed camera perspective when done right.

But RE is better off with other styles.I think Capcom should just use a different franchise and/or a new IP if they want to make a game with fixed camera.Or manage to integrate it really well into a RE game and make for a compelling case like first person did with RE 7.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I just want to see the goddamn game!! It was announced in 2015 and we've still seen nothing.

Sounds great! I'd prefer to stick with fixed cameras, but I'm willing to move outside my comfort zone if it means a better game.

sounds good, and the fact that they want to compete in terms of visual with god of war makes the wait even harder

So the RE7 chris was the actually chris?

I can't wait to stream this on Switch

Jokes aside i am very excited but also a little bit anxious to see the game and nothing here makes me overly worried.
