Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Considering Playstation Classic

Early 3d games have not aged as well as the Sprite based games, so a PS1,N64 etc classic system won't work as well as a NES,SNES classic system

It sort of makes me wish they only introduced 3d with the PS2,Gamecube and just had the PS1,N64 as sprite based, 640x480 24bit color, the games would of looked amazing

Looks the opposite to me. Those 2D graphics look atrocious!

Thats because of the low320x240 resolution, if instead of 3d at 320x240, then they would of been able to do 640x480 with 2d and the graphics would look like

compare this to the blurry mess that final fantasy VIII in 3d looks like

No contest

Then many PS2 and GameCube graphics would have been a lot worse due to the lack of experience they got from the former consoles.

You are also ignoring that there were a lot of good 2D games on PS1: Suikoden 1 + 2, Wild Arms, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Street Fighter Alpha 1 - 3, Megaman series, Rayman, Lost Vikings 1 + 2, Broken Sword 1 + 2, Discworld 1 + 2, Blazing Dragons...

Many others were 2D/3D hybrids with fixed (and often handdrawn) 2D-backgrounds.

Seeing a lot of mentions of Tony Hawk's 2. I assume the soundtrack would cause issues with that one? Very important part of the game.

A PSOne Classic (tiny) for $99.9 with games priced at $9.99 available thru physical and digital please. The machine can come with a 8 GB internal drive, an SD card slot and a ps1 classic controller, and we are all set.

If they go forward then its gonna fail. I doubt PS gamers want to play games 20 years old.

hmm, wouldn't most of the good games from the PS1 being available on modern platforms already kind of screw that over though? Most of the good stuff got re-released digitally on PS3, a lot is on PS4 or Steam. Some like Crash and soon Spyro have been completely remade for modern platforms.

It just seems kind of redundant to me.

I think Nintendo has proved there is a market for a dedicated system.  Even with the virtual console stuff on three of their systems, people were/are clamoring for the nes/snes classic.

Wait... your proposal it is retro console for $100 with no games included? And then you have to pay $10 for each PS1 game?

Why should people buy that instead of a used PS1 with games? Or a used PS2 with games (100% PS1 compatible + additional 100% PS2-support)? Or a used PS3 (100% PS1 compatible + access to cheap digital PS1 games + additional 100% PS3-support)? Or a used PSP (access to cheap digital PS1 games + additional 100% digital + physical PSP-support)? Or a PSTV (access to cheap digital PS1 games + access to cheap digital PSP games + additional 100% digital + physical Vita-support)?

Alot of those RPGs are timeless.

Final Fantasy 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9
SMT Persona 1
SMT Persona 2 part 1&2
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Suikoden 1,2
Arc the Lad 1,2,3
Breath of Fire 3,4
Dragon Quest VII
legend of the Dragoon
Vandel Hearts 1,2
Wild Arms 1,2
lunar 1,2

Plus theres stuff like:
Tomb Raider 1,2,3,4,5
Rayman 1,2
Crash Bandicoot 1,2,3
Spyro the dragon 1,2,3
the bugs bunny + looney tunes games.

Alot of those stand the test of time and better than most of the Nes/gamecube/n64 games.
Theres room for a PS1 classic.

Your argument that the games are already available is illogical because all of Nintendo's IP's are available on Rasp Pi yet the NES and SNES mini sold really well, considering they have virtual console and backwards compatibility on some of there devices. I would grab one if it had the good classics.
