Did anyone honestly think the new star war films were going to be epic? LOL, has been butchered like the Star Trek movies.

ah, internet... where a few thousand people in a forum think that every one think like them.

TLJ is a flop ? wow, i would that 1.3 billion dollars flop any day... you cannot compare TLJ with TFA box office wise. TFA was a lightning in a bottle, something that cannot be reproduce. it was the first star wars in a decade, the first one not directed by lucas, the first of the new triology...

I actually liked TLJ, and i think a lot of people does, actually probably most people have liked it, but you dont hear from them.

Solo seems ok, not great, but not a flop. i guess it will do less than rogue one. i think it have a bad timming. it would have a greater impact in december like the others. now it's way to close to TLJ to have a good impact.

but all the toxic side of the fandom will rage about it no matter if it's good or not. so let the dogs bark....

I watched Solo and I thought it was enjoyable and a fun movie.
Star Wars fans can be pretty hostile.

I am not a fan of TLJ, but I think TFA was a remaster of a great movie and was pretty good and enjoyable. Rogue One was one of the best star wars movies to date with lots of interesting characters, great droids  (K2) and a good story. TLJ was pretty much the opposite of what I liked about Rogue One. So if Solo is more like rogue one than TLJ I guess I will watch it.

I assure you, Solo is definitely more like Rogue One than TLJ, if you liked Rogue One you will almost certainly enjoy Solo as well.

Nice, the more movies I can enjoy the better. Perhaps I am just going to be more hyped for the spin offs than the main SW story.

Sure, a lot of people liked it, like basically any big budget movie. You put big explosions, a crappy love story, a few flashy fights and a lot of people will overall like it, even if it won't hold against a precise debate ("What did you think about that part?"). But this crowd doesn't make a lasting success out of a franchise.

I went to see TLJ with my girlfriend, who almost never saw Star Wars before. She didn't understand everything but she "liked it", as long as we don't discuss precise events. But she doesn't care at all about future movies. If I don't want to go see another SW movie, she will never be interested either.

The part of the audience who liked it is mostly people who don't really care about the franchise and see it as one more blockbuster. But it's the other part of the audience who creates hype and makes a franchise popular on the long term. If you alienate your core fans, casual viewers won't maintain your numbers for long.

Of course, SW will never flop. But you have to take into consideration the investment made by Disney and the potential they saw in the IP. Doing numbers quite lower than Marvel movies (as an example of something comparable but done right) is maybe not a flop, but definitely a disappointment. Which is ultimately kinda the same thing for Disney.

I have no interest in Solo, but I think it will be a commercial success making roughly $900 million total gross.

I think it will do something like 800-900 million. Has about as much hype surrounding it as a B-side Marvel movie (Spider-Man/Thor and so on). Might end up doing less though, but I can't see it doing over 1 billion world wide.

I haven't watched it yet, and now I feel slightly less inclined to do so. But we'll see, I'll likely end up watching it, even if only to complain about it from personal experience haha.

However, I think Disney expected they would have more of a "goose of the golden eggs" with SW larger even than the Marvel CU after signing the contract with George Lucas and specially after TFA released. It seems like, though, it's harder to make good SW movies and keep interest high than it seemed at first.

I don't know how the sequel trilogy will be looked upon in the future but there's a high chance it's going to be less kindly than the prequel trilogy even. "Yo momma" jokes and Harry Potter Casino are, well, at least up (down?) there with Jar Jar and most likely way worse.

Some anthology movies on the other hand might end up pretty nice like Rogue One or the theorized Ewan McGregor's Obi Wan movie.
