Why didn't you like TLJ? I thought the screenwriting was inexcusably bad, contrived, convoluted, and a waste of characters.

It felt like Johnson used gotcha moments the way Michael Bay uses explosions: shock the audience and loosely tie the set pieces together.

I went into TLJ a life-long fan and came out unsure if I ever wanted to see another SW film.

I'm pretty sure that's a fact.

You can very well enjoy TLJ, if you're just looking for a visual spectacle, and some cheap laughs. There was still some pacing issues, but ok, if you enjoyed it overall for those things….that's cool. You had a good time. Good for you. To say it was even remotely well written though…..I'm gonna have to look at you sideways.

Wouldn't say it was convoluted though, in fact, I'd say it was ridiculously basic. Like they could have maybe even gotten around the stupidity of certain plot elements if they'd bothered to convolute the shit out them lol

The plot wasn't convoluted, but the screenwriting was, to facilitate the gotcha moments. It just didn't make sense to introduce so many...pointless plot elements. There's a good 30 minutes to 1 hour of casino nonsense that was just unnecessary. As far as actual convolutions in the plot are concerned, though, what was the point of keeping Poe in the dark? Also, how did the codebreaker know Holdo's secret plan, if the only reason he met Finn and Rose was that they didn't know it (because Poe didn't know it.). It would have been better, if it had been completely excised: just bad, bad, bad. Maybe that's not convoluted and just plan stupid and illogical, like the great Rey identity non-answer.

What really killed me was the ending and how wholly unnecessary it was, all to facilitate several gotcha moments. Rey should wake up at the start of episode IX, which starts at the beginning of TLJ, and warn Luke of a future she saw; just retcon the whole damn thing and fill in gaps to facilitate IX's arc.

Maybe he will pirate it later to not help the company.

I don't think SJW pandering can ruin a film per se... but it certainly makes it less enjoyable. It was difficult to enjoy Black Panther with my eyes rolling so much. It took me out of the story and the movie itself was pretty dumb.

If he ends up watching a pirated version, fair enough, but considering how much he railed on people pirating video games it'd be pretty ironic.

I think we all agree its okay to pirate games from big evil companies as long as they push liberal agendas.

Either way, people tend to protest things they don't care for by not contributing to it. You can essentially learn everything about the Solo movie by simply reading some reviews and summaries about it. So you can become informed before throwing money at it.

On a side note, the SJW nonsense injected into Spiderman: Homecoming was also pretty annoying. Disney has an agenda and they have to consider its going to push customers away.

I've been trying to think of a way they could just retcon the whole thing. I can't see them having the guts to do it, but that's the only way I can think of that I'd come back to the franchise.

Spiderman: Homecoming wasn't Disney.

Rian Johnson was a disaster; they should have let JJ or Howard helm it and, at the very least, listened to Hamill about Luke's arc.

I sort of get what you're saying, but examples like that are actually my point, where they could have maybe somehow tried to justify the bad writing if it had been convoluted, because that there is just the thing…...there is never any real reason given for those occurrences. It's just like "Ha! Idiot! I had a plan all along, I just didn't tell you cus the script said this would make me look good!" A Gotcha moment as you said. Now, if you wanted that moment to mean something, you could have written it in some way, where for a myriad of reasons - be they legit or BS - withholding that information made sense, but they didn't. Everything is boiled down to very basic concepts, and they're all badly executed. Like the whole cause of the main plot with the fuel issues that cause everything to play out as it does lol. You could have written in some convoluted space technology mumbo jumbo, sci-fi BS to attempt to explain this universe's slowest chase sequence, but instead the writers were like "meh….low fuel and stuff."

As you said, stupid and illogical for sure. Convoluted….I'd say the opposite.

Thank you. Even if that's true, though, I'm still not going to watch it because TLJ ruined Star Wars for me. Until Kennedy is replaced, I'll just continue to personally boycott Star Wars.

So, after all of this talking about how "SJW pandering" has ruined the film, you haven't even watched it yourself to see if it's actually a good film or not.

Did you selectively not read any reason I'm not going to watch it, or did you just see that I didn't and decide that I'm wrong?

Hm. I just thought that Solo failed to take off because it was a boring, conventional action movie with a tired premise and mediocre reviews, not because it was supposedly a 'left wing propaganda picture' or whatever. This radical leftist never saw Solo as some kind of ass-kissery intended for me.

I thought Solo was okay as a movie (I especially enjoyed the fight on the "train" and yeah, the bitchy robot character Phoebe whom our many, many socially conservative members seem to hate), but felt that it never delivered on its promise to show us how Han Solo became the jaded character we first met back in A New Hope. That core goal -- the main thing people went to see the movie for -- was sacrificed for a Disney happy ending.

I also found there to be a disappointing lack of humor for a movie about a character who has always had great lines and situations and all that. Well there was humor, but it lacked punch. If to clarify the matter, I never heard even a chuckle out of the audience, where, by contrast, the audience had responded positively to a number of the gags in The Last Jedi.

In short, Solo was all in all kind of a dull movie that didn't take enough risks to be particularly interesting. That's my opinion anyway.

It's almost a meta-failure: there are no explanations given by the characters or to the audience, creating more questions than answers. That's compounded by it taking VII and essentially saying, "I guess...whatever, but here's something unrelated." The subtitle should have been, "Why Is This Happening?

Yeah, when people asked me what I hated about it so much my first response was always "What did you LIKE?" EVERYTHING was terrible. The throne room fight had its merits, and for one second when Luke walked out of the shelter at the end and I thought he was going to destroy everything. But that lasted about a second. That's pretty much it.
