It's quite obvious that Splatoon has become one of Nintendo's major franchises now. And (without any research) it's my assumption that Nintendo has always done spin offs of their main franchises. Mario, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Zelda etc.

I wouldn't say it's reaching to say Nintendo will do the same for Splatoon someday and give it a spinoff. I wanna know if y'all think a reveal could happen this year? Or is that something more for next year because Nintendo has the Octo-Expansion coming out this summer, so they wouldn't wanna advertise that and a spin-off game at the same time.

What type of spinoff could they do for the series do you think?

I do believe it's only a matter of time where we will see a Splatoon spinoff, since the franchise has proven that it is not only here to stay, but has established itself as one of Nintendo's premier IPs in just 2 installments.
As for what type of spinoff.
You know, I'd buy a turn based RPG that further explores Inkopolis and the world of the Inklings and Octolings. It could lead to some pretty unique, interesting, and cool characters from all kinds of races in the game with types of variety. Think of it like the different kinds of Toads, Goombas, Koopa Troopas, etc. from Paper Mario 1 and The Thousand Year Door. And I can easily envision all the different weapons and sub weapons being used in an turn based battle system.

Oh, I'm always down for a turn-based RPG. And I agree, this would totally work for Splatoon. A mixed party of Inklings and Octolings. Different weapons. This seems like an excellent choice.

Yo. Now I really want/need this in my life. An RPG would be perfect as it would allow for deeper characters and a more clear cut plot. So already, Story wise that’s a great idea. And I mean yeah, all the subs/specials would act as the abilities that need mana and the “ultimate” moves. Bruuhhgh

Splatoon as an IP would really work well as a turn based strategy game like X-com. Different gear is there, a multitude of weapons etc.

But that won’t happen (or at least I hope it won’t happen) because Mario + Rabbids happened (which is a good game).

I don't see it happening any time soon.

I wouldn't expect it any time soon, but it might happen in future. It's more likely we'll keep seeing the Inklings show up in different Nintendo games - though given they're already in Kart and Smash, I'm not sure where else they'll turn up. Maybe as DLC characters in Tennis Aces?

Mario and Rabbids is a very good game. But I wouldn't count a turn based Strategy spin off out just because of that. Nintendo tried it before with Codename Steam and if the team behind Kingdom Battle really wanted to build in roads in Japan, a Splatoon crossover (maybe not with the Rabbids but Rayman proper) would probably do quite well in Japan with a similar or equal level of care and Polish Mario and Rabbids got.

But yeah, I don't see the eventual Splatoon spinoff until 2019, this year is all about hyping the Octo DLC and various Splatfests.

I'm playing mario+rabbids right now(loving it) , and splatoon would fit perfectly in this gender.
I think I would like it more than regular splatoon.
