Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD (US): God of War had the best debut month ever for a PlayStation exclusive

Great sales and deserved... but I have to say I enjoyed the previous one more as Hack and Slash then demon souls... And I have to say what a chore have it been clearing 1/3 of the game on I Want God of War using level 1 equip.

What does that mean in numbers?

Something between 1.7 and 2.1M from what was discussed on the NPD thread.

So happy for SSM! Happy they got out of the slump after game cancelletion and layoffs. MLB The show seems to do well every year and its actually past Sea of Thieves in NPD sales, even with latter having windows market sales :o . Sea of Thieves had pretty big drop.

I think next month will be very interesting with new exclusives and how old ones hold up.

SO we should make a thread of MLB The Show versus SoT instead?

It beat even San Andreas? :O Now that is impressive!

San Andreas released on October 26th 2004, so it had five or six days of tracking. Also, since some time NPD emphasizes revenue over unit sales, so if the same metric is used in this comparison, God of War holds an obvious advantage due to the higher game price today than back then, plus the existence of various special editions which wasn't a common practice over a decade ago.

San Andreas sold 5.1m copies in the USA in 2004, but I couldn't find sales for the individual months of October, November and December. That's why it's unclear if the metric is revenue or unit sales in this comparison.

Seems like SA sold 2.06M on first month.

This is really wild. This is no small feet. Whatever is going on on these or any boards don't reflect reality. Remember that. Very well earned SSM

If it did 2m+ in the US in 10days... worldwide what? ~5m?

I wonder how high it is now?....
Anyways its clear that God of War is gonna do big lifetime numbers, so a sequel will come at some point.

We got something like 3M in first week WW from SSM disclosure.

3m week in but also remember the drop rate second and third week was really good. Probably averaged around 40% worldwide which would mean another 1.8m in second week and the week after was similar. Let's say another 900k and we have 5.7m in 3 weeks. I think the game is around 6.5m by now. By the end of the summer I guess 8m could be possible and by the end of the year 10m?

I agree with the ballpark of your estimations.

I was just answering to the 5M WW on April, since GoW launched end of month I think it didn't do much over 3M on April. But I could be wrong and won't check how many weekend it had on April (if it had 2, then 5M is possible).
