Factor in that they likely have a few more unannounced games for later this year/early next year and you're looking at 25-30 1st/2nd party games in the first 2 years.

Maybe switch is really just a successor to the 3DS and a true home console is still in the works. That would explain what generation the switch falls into.

Cause as far as I can tell it’s like the home console and handheld divisions never merged.

Except Nintendo considers the Switch to be a home console you can take with you. So there's no need for a separate home console, when Nintendo already has a system that can serve that role with the Switch.

I know what you are saying and I agree. But there’s that lingering thought in the back of my mind that says”what’s Nintendo gonna do when ps5/Xbox Zero comes out?”

probably a switch revision ion but I grew up with Nintendo power so I always hold out hope for real power and possibly some room for gratuitous violence and sexual implications from otherwise family oriented game developers.

Why would they have to do anything? Sales have shown that Switch does not interfere with PS/XB and vice versa.

Switch is one of the fastest selling consoles LTD while PS4 sold 20 million last year and XBO is having its best year so far, Switch is coexisting with PS/XB rather than directly competing with them and tgats not really going to change when the next PS/XB consoles release.

I agree with this.  I think Nintendo already putting out slightly more than 1 title per month is a very good rate.  I do not recall the Wii U having this much support from Nintendo.  We have a tendency to overlook the games that we personally do not like.  Even if Nintendo hasn't released any big sellers so far this year, we can recognize that they are still putting out a steady stream of content.  The Wii U did not have this steady stream of content.

The sooner Nintendo ditches the 3DS, the faster we'll see all pistons firing in terms of development.

Probably never because Nintendo making the jump to open world games this gen has increased the development times significantly. BotW was great but it took like 5 years of heavy development and Mario Galaxy clearly took a lot longer to develop that Mario 3D World. The extra resources freed up by not focusing on the 3DS is going to be consumed very quickly by the greater degree of complexity that needs to go into Switch titles.

That being said, if Nintendo keeps knocking it out of the park with the AAA titles that they do release, even though there is not a lot of them it will probably still be a worthwhile trade-off.

Nintendo's not making every Switch game an Open World AAA epic. I mean, in the Switch's first year, we had 1-2 Switch, a tech-demo made on a shoestring budget, Snipperclips, an indie co-production made by 6 people also on a shoestring budget. Along with ARMS and Splatoon 2, which definitely aren't open world AAA games. BotW and Mario Odyssey definitely going to be among the exceptions rather than the rule.

I mean Nintendo can take their time with Open World AAA games so long as we get handheld style games, casual focused oddities, and niche experiments in between them.

This is a great question. So far we’ve seen no sign of it. I hope that 2019 will be a year of massive first party support
