Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Lack of new games on Switch

If you're like me and don't want ports, it's gonna be a bumpy ride. My Switch is boxed up right now, waiting for Metroid Prime 4, Animal Crossing, Pokemon etc. Nothing really has changed. You buy a Nintendo console, you better learn patience.

Such a convoluted post.

You talk about relevant titles, yet you exclude Mario Tenis, Fire emblem and Yoshi.

Talk last year was filled with high caliber titles, but the ones that made the difference for Switch was Zelda (multiplat), MK8 (port), Arms(stretching a lot), Splatoon 2 and Odyssey. Not even mentioning that you conveniently ignore obvious announcements at e3 just to prove your point

Your Wii U comparison you list Luigi U and Wii Fit U as relevant and original titles and talk with a straight face that there's no significant difference with the first 14 months of the switch? Guess is not about quantity after all lol.

And since when are Mario Tennis and Yoshi, relevant titles?
If you check the latest FE sales, you'll see that it mainly sells software.
And if you compare both games, only the first one provided a small boost worldwide.

Splatoon 2, Zelda, MK8, Mario vs what exactly? Smash and probably Pokémon?

Then i spoke about Nintendo's ability to improve their output.
I think that what i presented speaks for itself
E3 is another story - as i'm only comparing the first 14 months (which is as far as Switch has gone).

Indeed, for you to thinking there's no significant difference, that's pretty telling...

BTW, we are on a thread talking about Switch games possibilities for former Wii U owners.

You got way off topic talking about titles that move hardware.

We reap what we sow

I would be hard-pressed to disagree.....

After coming out guns-blazing and delivering an awesome 2017 (with two GOTG's), 2018 has been somewhat of a letdown (so far). Haven't bought a single Switch game in 2018 yet. The only thing I'm really excited for is Splatoon 2 octo-expansion.

This, combined with the rumors that Pokemon is a gen 1 pandering nostalgia fest, I might pack up my Switch this Summer.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Part of the problem is their insistence on keeping the 3DS alive, it's still getting a fairly big amount of in-house developer attention, which is pulling resources away from where they should be; the Switch.

Is it though?

2018 1st party 3DS titles

March-Detective Pikachu (localization of a 2016 game)

June-Sushi Striker (also coming to Switch same day)

July-Captain Toad (also coming to Switch same day)

August-WarioWare (compilation of existing minigames)

2018-Luigi's Mansion (port of 2001 Gamecube game)

None of this really screams major support or something that is taking games from Switch.

And Luigi's Mansion is likely using Dark Moon's engine so the port is presumably easier than usual.

Heck, you forgot to mention Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story, which is using the Dream Team engine.

As for Wario Ware, its likely due to the fact that it fits 3DS more than Switch due to its touch screen nature (not that the Switch doesn't have a touch screen)

Well, you'll note that I never used the term "major support", I wrote "fairly big amount of in-house developer attention". As in; they shouldn't be bothering at all with the 3DS now and focus all their energy on the Switch. For me, 2018 is looking like a drab year as a Switch owner. Then again, I never cared about Pokemon or the Smash series, so that's partly up to my taste as well. Overall, 2018 is looking like a pretty boring year for gaming in general. Besides RDR2 and Pillars of Eternity 2, there isn't much on my radar at all if I'm honest.

First half ended being good for non Wii U owners. But in your case and many Wii U owners I can understand.

Iirc, only Kirby and Mario Tennis Aces will be the new games for the first half of 2018.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I've owned every Nintendo console since N64 launched back in 96. And for 21 years I sat through each generation feeling the same frustration every time. NINTENDO WHERE ARE THE GAMES???? Software always came out at a crawl on Nintendo platforms. But.... Eventually games came out, and each Nintendo system had a good library of 20 solid titles. Until 2012. Wii U was it. That was the first Nintendo console that I genuinely regretted getting.

Why? Because it didn't have enough games to justify its existence. Even with remasters, the number of non-Indie/non-ported Wii U games scoring over 80 on MC/OC was under 15. And Wii U tanked hard, because of this lack of games.

So what do I expect from Switch? I expect at minimum 4-5 non-Indie/non-port games scoring over 80 on MC/OC a year. The bad news is that Nintendo has yet to release a single game like that this year so far. The good news? Those games can all drop in the second half of the year, and Nintendo will still be good. Here's what we can expect for games that potentially meet my criteria...

Animal Crossing Switch
Poke'mon Switch
Yoshi (50/50 shot at being 80+ Meta)
Fire Emblem
Octopath Traveler
No More Heroes 3 (Unlikely to be 80+ Meta, but there's a chance)
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Pillars of Eternity II (Same year release = not a port)
Mario Tennis Aces (Another 50/50 shot at getting over 80 on aggregate sites.)

So all we really need is four out of these nine games to deliver. After that we have some nice icing on the cake such as...

Smash 4 port (Or maybe even Smash 5!)
Ys VIII port
Dark Souls portable edition
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

How about Fire Emblem, which is already slated for this year (and will certainly get a nice chunk of the E3 presentation). And we don't know what else Nintendo will bring

Fire Emblem has generated a lot of buzz, but when you go and look at how it impacted sales of 3DS HW, the story is very different.

The first game gave 3DS a nice bump specially in Japan and worldwide… i think. But the second game only saw the same kind of impact in japan. In the US and Europe and US, the results were either decrease in sales for both markets or at least just for the US - can garante it HW sales decreased in Europe but i remember it did in the US.

Did it sell well? Yeah it did. But it hasn't had an impact in HW.

The titles i highlighted for Switch in 2017 were games that were really relevant (HW sellers). 2018 has only one system seller confirmed, so far. Pokémon might be confirmed and other might be revealed, but i can't use what isn't confirmed as terms of comparison.
