Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Lack of new games on Switch

It was obviously going to be a slow year, they blew there load giving the system an incredible launch, they just can't release BOTW, Splatoon 2, Arms and Super Mario Odyssey in one year and then deliver another roster of this caliber again.

2018 is the year of WiiU ports, or at least the first half is, to buy Nintendo time to get there development teams going.

Smash is coming, Pokémon is looking quite likely also, Nintendo are just going to need some time to get back on track.

Well yeah, in 6 months of 2018. you had Kirby, Labor and Mario Tennis Aces, in July you have Octopath Traveler, we know that Smash Bros, Yoshi and Fire Emblem are coming, what else game you can expect you will know next month. ;)

I feel the opposite:

Mega Man Legacy Collection
Mega Man X Legacy Collection
Ikaruga
Okami
Steins;Gate Elite
The World Ends With You
Super Smash Bros

tbf, all but of one those games are older releases, but I've got a nice list of games to add to my backlog.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

This is why I will be waiting at least another 2 or 3 years before purchasing a Switch. There are so less games to play for me as a previous Wii U owner, it's ridiculous. PS4 is doing an excellent job at frequently releasing new and high quality games, so that will do.

I used the 1st half of 2018 to catch up on non-switch games like the Ys, Dragon Quest Final Fantasy VII. I also played a lot of the SNES mini as well. I also replayed Xenoblade 2 So I get the whole there are no new games on the Switch thing, however, ports are awesome if you miss the game the first time around. I mean I don't have time to play EVERYTHING. (Unless you only own a Wii U) So ports are like new games to me at times.

However, once June comes the release of brand new Switch games will start ramping up and I won't be able to keep up anymore. 2nd half of 2018 just stole all the games from the 1st half of 2008 I feel.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Nintendo did a fantastic job in the first year and really got the switch going, it was up to the so called 'on board' third party publishers to pick up the ball from there but they let us down with overpriced ports. I personally think they would rather the switch go away as it sucks sales and online revenues from other platforms.

Capcom with the rom dumps and a poor port of a mediocre resident evil game, where's our Monster Hunter World port (yes it can be done ) or a decent resident evil game, they can shove generations!

Konami with a mediocre bomberman party game, where's Metal Gear?

Take 2 gave us the La Noire when we all wanted GTA, Red Dead, Max Payne or Bully would have been better.

EA gave us a slap in the face with with 'we're not supporting it as it doesn't meet our future micro transaction online only future in fact we hope it dies soon as it's sucking sales from other platforms, but here's a licensed Fifa game as we're contractually obliged to provide one'

I could go on but Bethesda are the only publisher bringing triple AAA last gen and current gen titles and prove it can be done.

Well the PS4 is in its 5th year so isn't it expected? The Switch is only in its 2nd year and I still believe third party companies are still playing catch-up and ports aren't really a surprise in a 2nd year of a console. I mean, weren't PS4 and Xbone filled with remasters and HD collections along with new games?

A lot of these games are some I haven't played before, even on Wii U like Captain Toad. So yeah there are a lot of games out there for the Switch. Sure, not a lot of NEW games but these are games that shouldn't be shoved to the side.

We'll see more from Nintendo, definitely, at E3. However, I would be more concerned about the third-parties and whether or not they are going to commit with new titles. The Switch is showing signs of success and there seems to be little signs of it significantly slowing down, especially once Pokemon and Smash Bros. come around. Which third-party company is willing to put in some more investment on Switch games, outside of ports?

Outside of Octopath Traveler, SMT V, Bayonetta 3, Super Bomberman R, Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, a new Tales of game, and Mario + Rabbids, you don't have entirely new games from third-parties. Why is Capcom only doing ports still? What about Bandai Namco, why won't they show us instead of telling us? What about Level-5? What are they doing beyond ports?

I am in a similar boat. After Bayonetta I find myself interested in nothing till Octopath myself.

E3 will provide us more info on what is to come, release windows for bigger exclusives, etc.

While we haven't gotten a Mario Odyssey every other month as that's simply an unrealistic expectation, there are still games. Don't have such limiting criteria, try new things, broaden your horizons! If you can't do that though, then you're just gonna have to wait, but not for too much longer. Starting in June we'll see a consistent stream of new games. Mario Tennis, Octopath, Yoshi, Smash, Fire Emblem, n Pokemon.

Absolutely agree, nothing to play (for me) really, waiting for (only titles we're sure will be released this year):
- Dark Souls
- Wolfenstein
- Kentucky: Route Zero
- Flashback
- Pillars of Eternity
- Wasteland 2
- Octopath

So, looks like 2nd half of the year will be busy. Not a fan of Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Tennis, so next Nintendo games I want are Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4.
