I have been hearing rumors of a new DS coming at E3 later this year, however it seems like the PSP is the one needing of a refresh. I know some will bring out its recent jugernaut like sales in Japan, but besides Japan, The PSP is just an mp3 player.  Its software sales outside of Japan is terrible. Now i dont know if bringing out a new PSP will fix the software issues, sony certainly need to do something before Nintendo release the new DS. FAST.

If nintendo bring out anything to do with the DS, it'll be a redesign and not a totally new console. (which is what I assumed when you said PSP2).

Considering that the PSP slim only came out relatively recently, I don't think sony will want to pour even more of it's finances into making a new console just yet.

AND, I don't think sony gives a damn about software sales tbh, it's like Nintendo with their Wii, they make the money from hardware sales so they don't really care about the quality of their 3rd party games and software sales.

I think a 2nd redesign would be likely before a completely new handheld console, and i think they will wait until either a blu ray version of umd is viable or large capacity cartridges are cheap.

Technology is what gives psp any advantage over the ds, if they dont have something technologicaly more advanced people wont switch to the new console they release.

That being said i do look forward to seeing what they bring out but i think it can be more then 3 years until we see that

i disagree, nintendo is making tons of cash with software, and trust me, software sales is very important to Sony, microsoft and Nintendo.

Sony said they wanted the PSP to last either 8 or 10 years ( not sure which one they said) so it will still be a while until we see the PSP2.

It's not a NEW DS, is just a redesign or something like that. It won't have better graphics, etc.

And I think is highly unlikely the PSP last 8-10 years before launching a PSP2

I think an announcement this E3, with a prototype view, and then it'll come out Dec. 09 in Japan, March 10 in America.

What do you think Sony will add to it? i'm thinking touchscreen and thinner with better battery life.
