I obviously ain't buying the game if that's true, millions of fans will certainly do the same. Surely Gamefreak isn't completely daft to not realise this, so they're probably hoping the players gained from such hardcore gen 1 pandering well outweighs those lost. Such a highly unlikely and unnecessary gamble, but again, if that's true. We've had plenty of leaks that got stuff right but other stuff wrong before. We can only hope this is another one of those.

Could be dead wrong about this, but I'm still 95% certain this isn't a gen 8 game and that's still on the way. I think this exists simply because Nintendo wasn't content to wait 3 years into the Switch's lifecycle for Pokemon and neither were fans. Having only the original 151 in this would make sense if these game are just to tide fans over until the gen 8 games are ready since it requires far less time and resources to do. So don't expect next gen Pokemon from this and you won't be so disappointed. We'll get that when it's ready, not some rush job.

Your post makes it sound like I implied Let's Go is a gen 8 game yet I've only said the opposite. Another thing I've said before is that the reasons and excuses don't matter. They wont change the popular opinion that a Pokemon game with only 151 Pokemon would be insanely disappointing.

Really I thought you were annoyed because it looked bad (the cel shaded models really don't work with the more realistic background) with chance it was real. Honestly I think Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon straight up but into HD with no refinement looks better than that, with only the UI being a cool concept for the single screen.

No trainers standing behind their pokemon makes it look like a bit of a step back.

USUM look terrible to me. Like even Colosseum and Revolution look better. Agree to disagree. I wouldn't call the environment realistic, though. Just the lighting. And that's not even realistic so much as full of Michael Baye, WWHD-levels of bloom.

I don't really care that you can't see the trainers and other such details because the art always came off as a concept thing. Like using the Dpad to select items makes no sense; it should be menu options like run, bag, etc. Don't really care though because what the concept looks like to me is a more real-time battle system. That's what looks great to me. It's a semi-practical demonstration of how that might look. If it were up to me there's a ton I would change.

The screenshot is fake. That's why I'm depressed. No Pokemon game will ever look anything like this.

And it doesn't look much different from XB2. The HP bars aren't where they traditionally are, but I feel like that's a pretty inconsequential tradition to hold onto.

You're underestimating game freak if you think they will never make a game this gook looking. Just wait for later into the switch's lifespan and you'll see. Remember, GameFreak has never even fully developed for a home console before.

If that's their goal then...I mean, it's adorable.  In a way analogous to a small child thinking that if they climb the fifty foot tree with brittle limbs they can touch the clouds.  And is a scenario that is equally likely to end tragically.
