I did. Though here's why I considered it more likely than unlikely.
I had heard that "many" news outlets heard/corroborated the same thing. I also heard that Eurogamer specified that their source had been credible in the past.
Though as I look into this, I'm not sure who this "many" is referring to. So far I've only found news sites referencing a Reddit user, who EG says has a "patchy" history.
And in Eurogamer's own article, I don't see them describing their own source's prior credibility. You'd think it would be a given that they wouldn't report info as a rumor from someone who hasn't been credible with these things in the past to a certain degree, but it's not impossible that this is just someone they know has a working relationship with Nintendo.

So rather than "many" and "credible", from what I can see there are three different sources.
A random from 4chan.
A reddit poster with a patchy track record.
And a Eurogamer source with undisclosed credibility.

Unless I missed something. So rather than leaning towards this being more likely, I'm now more on the uncertain side.

That's the thing, even Eurogamer sound cautious and reserved in their report, where they cite the original leaker as having a "patchy" record.

Which is the correct journalistic approach; when something is unproven, treat it as such. A lot of people seem to be accepting this rumour as gospel before it's even verified.

Of Course they can act like it's officially thing and treated it like official thing, but they are confident enough in this rumour to make article about it.

Now that a few days have passed I'm 90% sure this rumor is true. I'm excited for the game, I think it'll land midway between Mario Kart and F-Zero, I think there'll be shortcurts and branching paths but with a faster pace than Mario Kart, this might also mean that Retro's next game will actually be F-Zero

At this point Im actually starting to believe this rumour. Im guessing this is one of their side projects and they´re developing another game with it.

On a sidenote, according to LinkedIn Retro now has 132 employees, more than double the ammount they had in 2010, backing the rumor that said the team is split in two, one of which might be going through development hell. If this was the case let's hope the Star Fox game is good (as it should be given Retro's talented developers and experience with Mario Kart 7) and sells well, if the other title is cancelled Retro might be risking a lot, I don't think Nintendo would pull the plug on them during the Switch's lifespan since they are making lots of money and DK:TF will more than likely make up for the money lost, but they might very well be in an unstable position, Kamiya proved it's really frustrating and stressing for a team to cancel a game that has been in the works for a long time

Reporting a rumour as a rumour doesn't necessarily show supreme confidence in its veracity; if it turns out to be real they get credit for reporting it, if it turns out to be fake, they're covered because they never claimed to know for sure and even pointed out the original source's patchy record.

It would not surprise me if it's real, but there's no sense in treating it as confirmed before we know for sure, that's all I'm saying.

If Starfox grand prix is basically F-Zero under a different name then bring it on.

If they are not quite confident about rumor they wouldn't make article about that, simple as that. I am sure that someone like EG hearing plenty of rumours much more than we get know about on internet, but they dont make article about every single thing they heard.

No one said its confirmed or official, but when you have IGN, Eurogamer, Emily, Kotaku, Dasbergen Gamexplain and Game Informer that all backed this rumor up, that means that rumour is most likely true.

Reporting a rumour is not the same thing as corroborating it. When something like this becomes a news story, all the main sites recover it regardless of whether they have verified it independently. That's not backing up a rumour, just repeating it.

Yeah just in case of Eurogamer, Emily, Kotaku and Gamexplain they all said they heard same/similar thing from they own sources also.

All I'm saying is, it doesn't help if people either get super excited or super angry before it's even confirmed; the latter could lead to disappointment and the former is just wasted energy.
