I'm a fan of emulators, so I think clone consoles are ok. Why rely on hardware that becomes rarer and rarer with time when you can have perfectly valid hardware alternatives?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I like original hardware the most from the poll choices, however there is something I like more than that.

I have been getting into retro gaming more in the past few years or so.  To me what feels the best is an arcade feel.  I like 2D games with a joystick and big buttons.  I like RGB graphics on a professional video monitor.  And of course you can only get that on original hardware from what I've seen.  To me a setup like this just feels right.  It is a high quality setup for a style of game that is just hard to find nowadays.

Most action games feel kind of boring to me nowadays.  For the most part the only action games I really like are 2D, especially if I can play them with an arcade stick and RGB graphics.

Someone made this point on YouTube recently. I prefer original hardware, but the tech like the Mega SG and AVS means we'll have 99.99% accurate representations of classic consoles (that can play original carts if desired) well past the time when many of our OG systems finally die.

If they use the physical carts/discs, are FPGA based, and the emulation code is made by someone with the same caliber as kevtris, yay. Otherwise, nay for me. I don't begrudge people wanting emulation typical for today, especially in the name of preserving games for the future. But personally I don't use normal emulators. I've only bought non-official hardware recently because that hardware fits my requirements.

I find even official console minis to be kinda garbage in both form and function.
