Forums - Microsoft Discussion - New Xbox One browser update

I hate using console browsers. No matter how they update it to make it "better" it still sucks.

They have their uses, for example double tap to switch to porn a walkthrough during a loading screen or unskippable cut scene. However god of war pauses loading if you switch away... the fuck it that good for. Works a treat in GT Sport anyway.

Is typing with a d-pad still a grueling nightmare?

WiiU browser best browser.

You could get a keyboard attachment for X1 controller. Frankly, that's less cumbersome than the Wii U tablet controller.

It would be great if the X1 had or support moust+keyboard pointer devices. Its kinda like a Wiimote with a keyboard, they're great for media devices and web browsing.

Testing out the browser right now on my One X. Typing this from my Logitech Wireless USB keyboard.

So far this is a huge improvement over the last time I played with this back in Feburary. The Keyboard support is even better than the PS4 now. I can use the enter bar for a double line break, or shift + enter for a single line break.

Gonna keep on playing around with it. Will come back with more if I find out any cool stuff.

Thanks for posting. This is huge for me. The only devices I currently own that could download anything were the Vita's and PS3's, going to be really nice to have a newer quicker device. Gonna have to see if it can download pdf's as well. I am pretty sure I grabbed a pdf reader back when I got my XOX.

Now the question is, can we move stuff to USB, and can we create folders? If we can do that, I am going to be super happy with this.

Aside from that app I listed in the OP, I can't even find where the video goes! It's not even in the media player.

So File Explorer is the key to everything.

If you have the browser set to ask you where to save, you can choose and/or create folders, name your download file, and save it to the system  or external storage as you please.

To watch Videos, open File Explorer, browse to the folder you saved your video to, and select the file. It will give you a list of apps that can play the selected file.

From File Explorer you can also transfer files to and from exterenal storage.

Finally, PDF's are supported directly in the browser. You can download the files as well. I don't know for sure if they work as I have nothing else that reads PDF's.

I have yet to try and grab any music from my Amazon account, but I feel pretty confedent it will work just fine. I have an old 256GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive that just found a new home. Saving to it allows VLC player to see any videos I download without having to take the long way through the File Explorer.

All in all, I am extreamly happy with this update. I will be using the Xbox a lot more, as it just took a major leap over the PS4 in web browsing. More tabs, no issues with single web pages causing the system to tell me it has insufficient memory, plus the ability to downlaod and have decent control over files and folders. Excellent work Microsoft!

Thank you so much for this info! Haven't seen it anywhere else in the web. Still, it's pretty great for a console browser.

Somebody should make a YouTube video to spread the word and show people what their console is capable of--or somebody has and I just can't find it.

Agreed.  Frankly, I'm surprised to see that anybody uses these browsers.  I can't think of a less efficient way to work online.

I don't use them to work or anything. They're mostly for play. Watching torrented movies, browsing YouTube for the answer to a puzzle, etc. I have an Xbox under every TV so every TV is pretty much a smart TV now. It keeps me from having to worry about my browsing history on the family PC!
