Forums - Microsoft Discussion - New Xbox One browser update

Not big news. Just an FYI.

I didn't see any news about it but the Xbox One browser has been updated. The interface is improved and less cumbersome. Not only that, you can save images and videos from the web to your hard drive.

I downloaded and image of Batman and a video from a porn website to test it out. It worked great, even telling how fast the download was and how big it was.

To view my downloaded pics, I had to go into the Xbox One picture app. To view my video, I downloaded the free app called "Video Player Simple" from the Xbox One store. After launching the app, just click Open File, select "This device", then "Downloads" and enjoy.

Not a game changer but pretty quick and easy way to download content from the web to your console and not infect your computer or get pop ups or anything.

Haven't tested this with music or anything. I'm sure there's an easier way to view downloaded content, too. Just thought it was nice to finally have this feature.

Thanks for posting. This is huge for me. The only devices I currently own that could download anything were the Vita's and PS3's, going to be really nice to have a newer quicker device. Gonna have to see if it can download pdf's as well. I am pretty sure I grabbed a pdf reader back when I got my XOX.

Now the question is, can we move stuff to USB, and can we create folders? If we can do that, I am going to be super happy with this.

Is typing with a d-pad still a grueling nightmare?

Aside from that app I listed in the OP, I can't even find where the video goes! It's not even in the media player.

Bummer. Well, I'm still excited to get back home and check it out. Hopefully the capability will expand over time. For now this is a step in a good direction.

You could get a keyboard attachment for X1 controller. Frankly, that's less cumbersome than the Wii U tablet controller.

It would be great if the X1 had or support moust+keyboard pointer devices. Its kinda like a Wiimote with a keyboard, they're great for media devices and web browsing.

You really think so? I would think a digital keyboard on a WiiU gamepad screen functions little different than a physical one.

Well I wasn't a fan of the Wii U interface and tablet control in general. A game pad with a keyboard just feels more comfortable to me, battery life is longer too.

The Wii U browser is spectacular and its web interface, in my opinion, is second to none. The
Nintendo just has a really good layout and you can go into settings and set it to mimic different operating systems. The touch screen is just gravy.

The Xbox One version is getting better, though. Just needs a few tweaks. It gets points for playing video better than Nintendo's slowly aging hardware and not crashing as much. With the new (?) ability to download stuff from the web and the new controls/look, it might be the one to beat.

It's why I want a Switch browser so badly. With a power update, it could be the best yet.

I just want the WiiU gamepad to be made compatible with the Switch as well as a browser because like you said, browsing the net with the WiiU was heavenly. No more nightmarish d-pad travel where you traverse a keyboard one key at a time. Ugh!
