Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Monster Hunter XX Switch coming west as Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

Finally! I was getting tired of playing the demo over and over again.

While it's nice that it's finally coming, you have to wonder what the heck the higher ups at Capcom are thinking. They could've released this last year, instead they said they had no plans on releasing it at all, shattering the hope of those who looked forward to playing it. And now, a year later, with a newer Monster Hunter game out, it somehow makes sense to localise it? I...seriously don't understand you Capcom.

It all makes sense from the angle of moving Monster Hunter away from Nintendo. Monster Hunter World got all of the preferential treatment it could possibly get while the odds for success have been stacked against Switch as much as possible. Generations Ultimate will likely be dubbed as a test game to see if it's worth it to port World to Switch.

Right, I didn't think about that.

im not going back to old mh from world, sorry

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

Hey nice! I’ll probably pick this up. While I loved World, I kinda lost motivation after beating the game, and don’t really care much about the weird crossovers. Feel like grinding is more tolerable on a handheld too.

I think Switch's Monster Hunter XX will sell a lot better in the west than it did in Japan. Capcom released Monster Hunter X in Japan, and in the west (as Generations) for 3DS. After that they released Monster Hunter XX in Japan, which was an expanded 3DS version of X. The west never got XX though. So for Japanese gamers Switch's XX was just a graphically updated version of a game that they already bought and played to death on 3DS. For western audiences it's a graphically updated 3DS game with tons of new content over the old Generations game. Then we gotta remember that Monster Hunter really wasn't very well known among the semi-casual crowd in the west, until MHW fixed all that.

So MH has a new surge of popularity in the West thanks to MHW, and the game has tons of new content that western 3DS audiences never got to see. That = sales IMO.

Edit: Oh yeah, Switch has a really good lineup this year now! Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing (probably), Smash, Octopath, and MH.

It still looks so last gen compaired to MHW.....

I know theres probably some Switch owners hyped for this, but this is like a bandaid at best,
& suspect most would much rather have MHW instead.

Of course it does, it's a 3DS game. It's several generations removed from the PS4 in terms of.....everything.

It's not like they changed the game in any fundamental way, they just gave it higher resolution textures and added some foliage, light- and water-effects.

Well ya lol its an updated port of a game made on 3DS, it should look last gen in comparison.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I have been thinking of getting MHW on PC on a rainy day but not being portable or physical didn't appeal to me too much. However, I remember back in the Wii days how I wished the game was on a portable and on in the 3DS days how I wished it was also on a console. The Switch could do both so this game is literally perfect for me. I will probably get this someday. Maybe at launch me in the holiday. Nothing is planned right now for me.

(killeryoshis note - Who put that there ?)
Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Awesome! This means that if Capcom is developing an MH5Portable they will bring it to the West. I forgive you Capcom. Will definitely be picking this up, even for $60. While I plan to get MHW for PC when it comes out, I am happy Capcom still seems to be supporting portable Monster Hunter.
