It would've been redundant anyway with the NSO service being a thing.

A subscription model would allow Nintendo to offer (access to) older games at a more competitive price, without devaluing their IP, as the consumer doesn’t own the game (or license) but instead is paying for access.

Sounds like Bull to me.
Look how far emulators have come, and they ve had to "guess" their way forwards getting things to work, Nintendo "knows" how their older consoles worked. Switch should have shipped with emulation capabilities, and a Virtual Console.

It d be little work, and they d be able to offer people to rebuy classics.

Instead your promoteing that they ll nickle and dime people? "older games at a more competitive price" my arse lol.

lol no it doesnt.

They said they will be adding at least one new game for "free" every month. Since we already start out with 20 NES games, it won't take long for them to move to SNES, then to N64 and so on.

The problem is:

1) Its not here and now.
(dont like the game you got? tough luck, gamble another month? maybe that month you get something decent)

2) you have no controll over which games you ll get which month
(so your paying for a survice in the "hopes" you get one of the games you want)

Its not very Pro-Consumer is it? its a kick in the balls, and not something nintendo fans should be happy about.

Entire game libraries can be accessed for a subscription fee, which *could* be discounted.

Dropping individual game prices to $1 is not palatable to Nintendo as it devalues their IP.

Nintendo didn't said that there won't be virtual consoles games. They said there won't be any under the "Virtual Console Banner". So, you will still see NES and SNES and N64 and so on games on the Switch.

Yeeeeah, disappointment. I just hope Square could at least release Chrono Trigger on the eshop in the future.

Aren't all services like that? I remember feeling underwhelmed by the horrible line up of PS Plus on PS4's first years where we would only get indie games, and most of them were not even good. It was also more than double of what Nintendo is charging here. It's normal to take months, or years, to see big improvements.

Can't talk about XBL since I never subscribed until now.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well that really sucks

Im ok with that as long as they include SNES, N64 and other console titles in the netflix type service.

The sad thing is there won't be an official outlet to buy Sega Games anymore outside of the Ages collection (as there was with the Wii). Unless, of course you count the "Genesis Mini" by AtGames - the folks who brought us this monstrosity: https://youtu.be/YcocHCVY0qo
