Kotaku got an e-mail from Nintendo. It's a sad e-mail.

Maybe it’s for the better. The extended versions of Nintendo games with extra features are something, but you must get them one by one, so it’s expensive.

That's fine. It would just be a few every month spread out over 5 years anyway. Maybe we`ll see more compilations instead.

As long as we still get quality and plentiful current gen games, it should he fine. Indies have come a long way and there are plenty of retro style ones to fill that void.

I guess I will stick with ebay and emulation for my classic gaming needs. I think their best route for classics would be to release more mini consoles with compilations and produce more than "limited edition" quantities to keep them in stock. The only bad thing about them is the scalping sue to understocking issues.

Well, it's the end of the Virtual Console brand. I'm still more than happy to play those games through Switch Online service ($20 per year is a very good deal). I just hope that there will be a way to purchase them separately.

To be honest I'm mainly interested in new games (I've only ever bought like 3 virtual console games before).

Plus I don't think you have to worry about Nintendo not bringing their old titles onto the Switch because they've already started to do just that.

Exactly. It's more affordable for all game developers, you get more for your money, and it won't be this big deal that takes time from Nintendo. Let Square Enix release Final Fantasy Collections or Capcom's Megaman Collections, etc. It's a win-win situation. I'm glad they're done with VC tbh. Trickling out overpriced rom files was not for me.

That being said I'm sure Nintendo's online service won't stop at only NES games.

Its sad.Well I personally think so.I still think that they will try to find a way to sell these old games individually, but I still find it sad and a missed oportunity.

It seems that the service will now be the new VC.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

This is just end of VC brand and format, Nintendo offcourse will release older games to Switch just in difrent format and whitout brand.

I don't care that the online service is just $20. I like having the option of buying a game and being able to have it sit on a hard/flash drive waiting for me whenever I want it. PS Plus has been a thing for a while, yet I can still buy PS1 and PS2 classics whenever I feel like it without needing PS+. It's all about options, and if the option to do that doesn't return, then it'll be a tremendous step back for me.

Mini consoles are not a solution for a true VC type of service. The amount of games they offer is a drop in the bucket compared to what can be offered through VC, you'd have to pay the initial cost of the entire system (if you're lucky enough not to resort to buying from scalpers) even if you're only interested in a game or two from the collection, they aren't portable thus far, they are yet another piece of hardware demanding space near a TV and requiring power and a connection to a TV, you can't expand their range of games or functionality via updates, and they are just plain a humongous pain in the ass to acquire.
