Forums - Gaming Discussion - Seriously flawed games that you love anyway

I loved Ark back then (and still do but I don't play it anymore) and wish the devs of the game didn't blatantly exploit early access the way they did. It had so much potential and (IMO) was probably one of the most complete experiences you can have in a game without a linear story.

Still wishing a different dev would buy out the assets and develop it to its full potential (unlikely).

Tom and Jerry: Fists of Furry (PC) - Very fun game, but it lacks content and depth, and has pretty bad controls.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The UI is crap. The map is ABSOLUTE TRASH. The lack of english lip sync is EXTREMELY noticeable, often to the actual detriment of cutscenes. The animation for said cutscenes is often stiff. The audio mixing is garbage. The amount of the damn Tiger! Tiger! mini game the game wants you to play to satisfactorily upgrade Poppi is absolutely disgusting (and that's WITH the season pass that cuts that SIGNIFICANTLY. While it wasn't a significant problem for my personally, the fact that the game doesn't let you reread text tutorials is dumb for a game this complicated and dense. All of this in mind, Xenoblade 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time, my GOTY for 2017. I love the combat, story, world, and characters that much.

^this. Plus, once again monolith soft went with quantity over quality (lots of blades, lots of subquests, lots of equip and at the end of the day only 5% of it is useful/meaningful). I wouldn't call it one of my favorite games of all time, but still I really enjoyed playing it.

Also Primal on PS2. I really loved that game, at the time I didn't know about metacritic and was shocked to find out that it did poorly several years later. But then, thinking about it, any part of that game was clunky and unpolished.

I can agree with equipment most especially. I find the system where you have to refine aux cores to use them so unnecessary and cumbersome to the point of barely bothering until I had my full party so I could just do it all at once. I don't remember buying accessories once in the entire game.

Star Fox Zero

This is my favorite Wii U game.

I  understand that people couldn't grasp  how to play using the gamepad & motion controls, but it clicked for me immediately. Reminded me of an arcadey-afterburner-esque experience.

The fact that everyone hates it makes me feel like they made the game for me!

Also wanna shout out E.V.O. on the SNES. Love that game so much despite its hard difficulty and wonky platforming and jumping controls.

Mount & Blade: Warband with the Napoleonic Wars DLC and Xenoblade Chronicles X are two games I love and have spent hundreds of hours with, but truth be told both of them has so many issues that listing them would result in an essay.

Mass Effect Andromeda.

Xenoblade 2

I thought bound by flame was great. It's awful but I love it. If MST3K played games they would play bound by flame.

Also,

CONTACT for the DS

This is a wicked weird game from Grasshopper (oxymoron i know)

You do very little direct gameplay. You aren't even technically controlling the main character. You play as yourself, a person using the DS to interact with the main character of the game has he goes off on a quest at the behest of  strange scientist who directly speaks to you at points.

Combat plays out like Diablo combat if it was automatic. So you just basically tell your dude where to move. He takes care of the rest.

In many ways this game is in fact not fun, but it sucked me in enough to play through the story's bizarre twists and supremely Meta ending.

I fully recommend it to anyone with a lot of patience and an interest into something very different.

Im baffled by how I spent over 100 hours in Mount and Blade. That's at least 80 hours of staring at horribly rendered green hills....and I'd do it all over again.
