Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Quantum Break is a masterpiece

This game was Microsoft’s The Order. Lots of potential but ultimately terribly boring and flawed. The main character was so shallow that I can’t even remember his name and the little game there was was interrupted by very mediocre life action scenes. Anyone who calls this “maybe his best game this gen” must either not have played many games, or deserves to be patronised from now on.

And yet I own all the consoles and have played lots of games this gen. Hope that helps.

Feel free to patronize because someone has a different taste in games than you :)

Remedy has to make games on PS4 as well.

Meh. Nothing special. Max Payne is a much better game. Even Alan wake was better. Max and Alan really need sequels.

Quantum i couldn’t care less about.

I'm still salty its not on PS4 since I always wanted a game with time manipulation.

Try Super Time Force, it’s not the same genre but it has time manipulation and is very good.

fuck "Masterpiece" gets thrown around like a basketball these days.

Good yes but no Masterpiece.

Its an above average game that only lasts 6 hours on a blind playthrough. So a solid 8 out of 10 game at best that definately falls short of the best games this gen. When people talk about the best this gen it is never in the reckoning apart from this thread.

If you play Quantum Break as a cover shooter then you’re playing it wrong :)

What are these story contradictions?

I think that was directed at me?

Well, I didn't play it like a cover shooter all the time but the time powers were essentially escape mechanisms that didn't liven up game play at all. You essentially used them as a means to run away, none of them were offensive except for maybe the time stop. Plus the level design was laughable and unimaginative, shooting galleries are just bad and should be left to die in last gen but QB brought it back. Forgot to mention that the platforming was terrible.

I don't remember the story much but I remember this one part where the guy needed to get over a gate or through a door but instead of using his powers to rewind time to revert the door to a state where it was open he was forced to "find another way". First that's obviously to pad out the game and second it goes against the person's previously established powers.

There were many more definitely but this is all I remember.

Well I’m not surprised you didn’t enjoy it, seems like you tried to play it as a standard cover shooter and never played with your powers because literally every one of them have offensive and defensive uses and stacking them on top of one another as you fly around a fight is what “livens up” the gameplay :) Your time warp is not only a way to dart away from an enemy but you can also dart to an enemy and when you ADS it creates a slow motion time stutter which you use to blast them to bits. This was my favorite thing to do with the shotgun. Not only that but when the time rush ability is added you get the ability to immediately take down weaker enemies. Your time bomb is clearly offensive. It works great for taking out snipers in the back of an area, on Hard they’ll kill you in two hits. Your time stop has obvious offensive and defensive uses. The time shield obviously shields you but you can trigger it when close to an enemy and it will stagger them, allowing you to then riddle them with bullets. Even the time vision, the simplest of the abilities, highlights stuff around the area that you can detonate to kill people. And of course it all looks glorious. Idk if I have ever seen a game look better than this game than when you’re facing two juggernauts and one dies and he’s just sitting there glitching around in time with all these effects and particles all around him. Very sci-fi.

Your story complaint conveys an ignorance equaling that of your time powers complaint. Jack can’t rewind anything he wants at any time. There has to be an event or action and Jack can rewind a few seconds of time. He can’t just go to a door and rewind time until someone had opened it. Sometimes time will rewind or fast forward much more than a few seconds around Jack but that’s not him doing it, that’s just time collapsing and going crazy due to the Fracture. The story is actually very well written.

No offense but your story complaint is also very silly. It would be like complaining that a villain doesn’t just blow the heroes brains out in some movie when given the chance. I mean sure I guess that would make sense for the villain but then that’s a boring ass movie.

This is, Imo, one of the best games of all time.
