Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Quantum Break is a masterpiece

i have played it along time ago, but as i see it now it is about 20% of my monthly data cap to download just 1 game. maybe down the line some when I am not so fucked by Comcast.

It didnt grab me right away and I moved on to something else at the time is all I remember, I see why you enjoyed the game OP, you described that well and makes me want to try it again. I already downloaded some big games since the start of the month, it might be until next month I consider it, thanks to bullshit data caps.

You have a data cap that is so low you can only download a few games per month?

Is the game on Gamepass?

One of the best games this gen.

No, not yet anyway. lol, it’s a fucking huge download.

Idk if it’s true or not but that Resetera thread about it being in preproduction has me rock hard.

Maybe just download the game and not the TV show or the 4K version. It should be much smaller. Or install from a disc?

Lol what? This game was mediocre at best. The gameplay was bland, lazy and so damn shallow, a cover shooter amounting to just shooting galleries. The time powers brought it up a bit but some of them were so nonsensical and made the narrative seem stupider by the minute. I mean time blast/bomb? Really? Jesus, how unoriginal.

The characters were soooo bland, the TV show felt like some terribly juvenile Youtube series, yeah not even Youtube Red worthy. The writing was hilariously bad, the characters were all so irrelevant to the overall narrative and it was just plain boring.

The story, I mean wow, they contradict and sabotage their own story by completely disregarding previously established plot points. I get it, time travel stories will almost always have plot holes but the story here just forgets that the guy has time powers that can help them out of a situation.

The game was quite bad, the gameplay was too damn boring and did not have any variation beyond being the next shooting gallery, the story was mediocre and the characters were terribly written and were not at all noteworthy in my opinion.

In my opinion the game should have sat at around 68 metacritic just like Sea of Thieves but I got a few laughs out of how bad the game was plus it had content nevermind how bad it was. So a 70 should be enough but it somehow got a 77 just like how Sea of Thieves should have sat at 40.

If you play Quantum Break as a cover shooter then you’re playing it wrong :)

What are these story contradictions?

I'm reluctant to say its a masterpiece, but I REALLY liked Quantum Break.

I enjoyed the story even if the TV show things weren't particularly interesting. The level design was well done and I even spent time finding all the collectables which I rarely do. The game was short so that motivated me to play it twice and try different things with the story.

After having completed the game and become well acclimated with all the abilities, I agree its much more than a cover shooter. It feels more like superhero game when you learn how to use the abilities.

I wouldn't argue the game is amazing, I just really like it compared to other narrative driven game and that's how it should be perceived. For example, it was a lot more interesting than linear experience of The Order. It had better gameplay than Telltale games, Quantic Dream games, etc. But people unfairly compare it to games like Uncharted, which was not the direction it was going.

" If Remedy owns the IP, maybe it could be a multiplatform release."

Remedy have confirmed there next game will be multiplatform and launch on PS4. I don't think it'll be quantum break though, looks like an expensive game to make and it's sales were not good at all.

Remedy does not own Quantum Break but they're going multiplat. However, I get the impression they're dependent on funding so their next project(s) could be small.

Quantum Break would have been lucky to break even. I would simply guess it sold over a million between Xbox and PC.

If MS is gonna fund another Remedy project, the safest bet would probably be Alan Wake 2.

I think that was directed at me?

Well, I didn't play it like a cover shooter all the time but the time powers were essentially escape mechanisms that didn't liven up game play at all. You essentially used them as a means to run away, none of them were offensive except for maybe the time stop. Plus the level design was laughable and unimaginative, shooting galleries are just bad and should be left to die in last gen but QB brought it back. Forgot to mention that the platforming was terrible.

I don't remember the story much but I remember this one part where the guy needed to get over a gate or through a door but instead of using his powers to rewind time to revert the door to a state where it was open he was forced to "find another way". First that's obviously to pad out the game and second it goes against the person's previously established powers.

There were many more definitely but this is all I remember.
