Why do people keep referring to Beat em up as being hack and slash in 2018 ?
Also Bayonnetta still exists.

By that logic diablo is a step above DMC and bayonetta as it's even purer. Silly argument, anyone who has played enough into this game to unlock it's delights would know that this is just as pure as DMC or bayonetta and an evolution of the genre itself. Thank fuck we don't have to remember lists of combos to get the meat of the game to show, most people who play 7th gen H&S end up button mashing or sticking to basic combo's anyway, Only elitests have a problem here and if elitists of the genres got to decide the course of those genres they'd never evolve and stay perfectly stagnant. Many genres have come to an halt and GOW/DMC H&S was certainly hitting that point, GOW not only brought it back to the mainstream but has elevated it up to the best and most popular of levels with sales reaching near multiplatform shooter levels and praise akin to the most artsy fartsy narrative driven games.

Stay stuck in the mud, you seem to like it there.

No, it just looks like you actually hate Hack n' Slash mechanics  at their core since you seem to like  games which are more akin to an Action RPG.

Heck, Vanquish is probably more similar to a hack n' slash than GOW is.

Way to strawman me, you don't know me nor dictate what I love or hate but let me put it into words for you. I've played every GOW game, every DMC including the soft reboot (my favourite) and bayonetta 1 as well as loads of ARPG H&S along the lines of Diablo and hell, I'd consider darksiders to be among them also.

i absolutely have loved modern H&S since GOW1, maybe even DMC before it. So, no you can not invalidate my opinions by putting words in my mouth I firmly believe that the genre was dying and GOW just saved it.

As for Vanquish being more H%S....have you actually played the game longer than 5 hours? if you did, You'd know the game stunts your variety at the beginning and as time goes on it blossoms more and more into hack and slash and at a certain point becomes the definition of 3d, new age hack and slash. This game is designed to start out the way it did and add in weapons and mechanics as you progress for the sense of feeling and becoming more powerful.

3.1 million has never been a number any modern 6th/7th gen H&S achieved in their first month let alone three days. That can only have a good result on the genre.

Also, Strawmanning people is borish and just bad form.

Peace.

I really hope you are wrong, OP. Janky, up close camera with shoulder button combos and lame lock on is, quite possibly, the worst thing the genre could do.

I get the feeling you haven’t played the new GoW, let alone finished it. I’ve seen you make a couple odd comments now against this game, some obvious, some a bit more stealthy. One of them u said GoW will likely do lifetime sales of 7-8 mil bc of its sales of 3.1 mil in 3 days. And if you know anything about sales at all, you would know that is a ridiculous statement. GoW is more likely to sell 15 mil than it is to sell 7-8 mil.

I’d like to hear your explanation as to how the camera is “janky.”

You played it?

Gotta love the rhetoric of "you must play x amount of this game before you can say anything negative."  Let's say I have, anyone who disagrees would still disagree.  So what's the difference?  Why do I need to experience a janky, wonky, too close camera with shitty lock on when I can clearly see it in a youtube video?  Do I need to play every Call of Duty to know it's "just another Call of Duty"?  That's what video footage of gameplay and reviews are for.

Haha nvm, you confirmed what everyone could already tell. 99.9% of people who have PLAYED this game have loved it, but you watch some YouTube videos and think you have the game figured out. It’s okay to not like a game, but it’s obvious you have an agenda of some sort based on some of ur posts about GoW. That’s your prerogative, but just know people notice.

A few mins of edited gameplay in a youtube vid or review is nothing compared to playing it for a while. There's not really any comparable games to it so your cod example doesn't apply here. That's just like a virgin claiming he or she knows what sex is like by watching clips of porn or reading reviews/sex stories.

When you've compared your argument about video games to human intimacy, it makes me wonder why I even bother.

See my post above.  TLDR: one doesn't have to play every second of a game to know it's not for them.

If we're talking about my comments on the sales, I based my statement on past series sales.  What are you basing yours on?  Because games can sell loads in their first and even second week, then fall off a cliff.  Monster Hunter World in the US and Dragon Quest XI in Japan if you need references.

The camera is janky upon hit animations.  First it freezes upon impact, then rocks and jitters to give off a sense of intensity.  Because the camera is so close, it gives off almost a motion sickness effect.

If games can't be decided on based on reviews and video footage of gameplay, then what's the point of them?  They are there to let you know if you will like the game, correct?  Even if what the review says sounds glowing, if I see the actual footage and think it looks pants, I'm no longer deciding based on my own opinion, but what the reviewer is telling me.  Cause "you still gotta play it before you can say a negative thing."

By your logic, all gamers should be bankrupt.  Because they must play every game, whether they like how it looks or not, just because of hype culture.

In the last third of the game (plus end game content) it is basically the exact same as the previous GOW games as far as hack and slash goes. For those that have played the first half and say they know enough to make a judgement, it changes.

Loving God of war and really looking forward to Bayonetta 3.

Should there be one main GOW thread instead of 5 new sub-threads daily? Just a suggestion...

Would be nice, since the hot topic area is being spammed by them nearly daily.
