Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Smash Bros. Character Reworks?

Ganondorf is more than overdue for a reworked move set. He has an evil sword and he doesn't use it? Blasphemy! What an insult to the king of Evil has to be a clone of a race car driver. Also, buff the puff.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Zelda has needed help since inception and she's only gotten worse with each successive title. That shouldn't even be possible.

Honestly though, I've played a lot of Smash and feel all the characters need tweaking. I understand some things are set - you don't go changing a characters normals randomly. But some moves are just uninteresting and/or basically useless(Mario's forward tilt/down tilt anyone?). Very few characters feel like they have genuine kits and feel more like "use these 3 moves cause they're busted."

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

Fix the clones. They’re especially frustrating when they’re characters with no nostalgia nor purpose (like Lucina). I genuinely felt like some of the fat on the roster of 4 is what contributed to it being my least favorite in the series so far.

I agree. I honestly preferred Brawl over this one. I don't play this game competitively so I could care less if the mechanics favored melee more but the clones need to go.

Yes, ESPECIALLY Lucina. Ike and Robin at least were different enough in their own right, but Lucina is just female Marth with slightly adjusted stats.

You guys do realize that clones aren't just like lazily made characters that are taking the spots of what would otherwise be totally unique fighters, right? They're much easier to put together and take far less development time. You're not getting any new characters if you get rid of clones, you're just making the roster slightly smaller without receiving anything in return.

Then postpone the game until it’s ready. Nintendo is known for quality content so it’s upsetting to see one of their flagship franchises fluffing content because of an impending release date. 4 was all about content over quality and it showed. I’m just hoping to see a return to greatness.

I think it would be great if BotW Link is a separate character, so we can have 3 Links.

Of course. Link, Champion Link and Wolf Link would be awesome.

No, no one cares about Toon Link.

Hey now, I do :P

I wondered why they didn't change Toon Link's final smash to use the Wind Waker and summon ferocious winds or use the King of Red Lions and flood the stage...

I would love for them to bring the whole roster from Hyrule Warriors :P (yes, I'm a Zelda fanboy).

1doesnotsimply

Get rid of all the cheap down B counters. Most questionable attack in the Smash series, especially Corrin's

I generally don't mind clones...
I was, however, miffed about Dark Pit...
Kid Icarus Uprising had an incredibly long list of weapon options from which they could have drawn inspiration...
There was absolutely no reason for him to be a clone...

Have a nice day...

We didn't say get rid of the clones, just make them less clone-like.

...I don't want to assume, but I don't think you quite get it. Making the clones "less clone like" requires development time that Nintendo (or more specifically, Sakurai) wasn't willing to devote to them. They were initially going to be alternate skins, but Sakurai thought it might be cool to give them their own essential gimmick. These were never characters that were going to get a fully fledged dev time. You either get a couple extra clones, or you get nothing at all. There is no scenario where these characters have their own unique movesets.

I think I'd be more inclined to agree with this if there weren't like 48 unique characters in the game already. If corners were obviously being cut and unique characters with unique movesets were being sacrificed for clones in the name of getting a game out quicker, then sure. But that's not the case; Lucina, Dark Pit, and Dr. Mario were originally just going to be alternate skins (like Alph or the Koopa Kids). Instead of getting an alternate skin, you get essentially an alternate skin with a couple design changes. These were never going to be fully fledged characters in the first place.

No one would have complained about having a Lucina alt for Marth, or a Dark Pit alt for Pit. It boggles my mind, then, that people complain about having a Lucina alt for Marth with literally one balance change.
