Buying a console for one game?

Recently it was announced that H1Z1 will launch exclusively for the ps4.  Initially it was announced as such, but when Sony dropped the dev, they said this title would launch on Xbox as well.  A few months later, it was put on hiatus.  Now it’s back on the ps4 with an Xbox port on hold (or cancelled to counter PUBG potential Xbox exclusively?).  Now here’s my dilemma.  I want to play this game on a console, badly.  But if I bought a ps4, it’d be the only game I’d own, or want to.  I’m in a similar dilemma with the Switch.  I’d only own Mario Odyssey.  I can kinda live with that, but I’m torn with H1Z1.

Have you ever purchased a console for one game, or would you?

BTW, this new site layout is not IPhone friendly.  At least on the SE.

Hasn't H1Z1 "coming to PS4" been in the pipe for a few years now? If you're buying a PS4 for H1Z1 and not all of it's other amazing exclusives, then that'll make me the most bewildered person on this planet....

I bought a WiiU for Smash and regretted it. I bought a 360 for Lost Odyssey (loved the game) and regretted it. You shouldn't buy it if you only want to play one game, once you have had your time with it the console will just end up collecting dust, as my WiiU and 360 are now.

I bought my PS4 for Arkham Knight. I played City , Blackgate and origins on Wii U so really got into the series there, but knew the latest game wasn't going to come to that system. I picked up the remasters on PS4 as well so I could play Arkham Asylum and complete the series. Regarding Nintendo, I always buy their systems at launch, it's all about Mario and Zelda.

I would understand people if they really bought the Switch only for Mario Odyssey or Zelda BOTW ...

But that's also knowing other great games were coming along that actually convinced people to do this purchase.

I mean, I bought my Switch with MK8DX and waited until August for my 2nd big game on it with M+R Kingdom Battle. Now I have plenty more, but it was a calculated thing already, I wasn't worried.

I bought Wii U especially for Smash. I bought overall about 10 games. But Smash play time amounts to more than 90%. More than 850 hours of play time just for smash. So, If you think it that way, yes this console is just a Smash machine. I still enjoy it even though the left stick doesn't work properly anymore, and the moves fail :p

Prepare for bewilderment lol.  I’m more of an online gamer and I have no interest in other ps4 exclusives.

Although, what else does the ps4 have online wise that’s exclusive?  Please don’t bring up The Last of Us because I’ve played that on the ps3 and that was just a crawling simulator.  ;)

I wouldn't say I ever bought a console for only one game in specific. Like when I bought a PS3 for FF Versus XIII that was a big factor in the purchase of said PS3 but I knew there were other games I wanted as well. But if H1Z1 is all that interests you in the potential purchase of a PS4 then I personally wouldn't even consider the console for just one game, no matter how badly I wanted that one game.

Just my two cents though.

It's happened to me quite a number of times, such as the N64 for Mario 64, the GC for melee, the PS2 for DDR, I can list more. The way I see it, buying a console for one game is like dipping into the pool. Once you're in it, there's a sea of games open to you, and there's bound to be more titles that interest you.

Almost bought the switch for Zelda as I did for the Wii with TP. The I played BoTW and was so let down I'm still weary of the console. Only reason I bought a PS2 was because of MGS2 so yeah, the PS2 and wii were two consoles I bought for a single game and then enjoyed them for many other games and reason, the ps2 much more than the wii but the wii gave me so many good party memories. I'd almost count the 360 in this category cause I bought it for Alan wake but I had been eyeing it at a distance for long before the game released, definitely the reason that pushed me over the edge though, that and the elite having more memory.

Also, If H1Z1 is the only reason you'll buy a ps4, don't bother. What an odd title to decide on a console purchase...anyway, the library is the best in the business, look through it at both triple A, double A and indie levels and see what pops out for you, if nothing does, then don't bother.
