I'm mainly a console gamer, but I have played FPS games on PC before. I originally used a controller but switched to KB+M after people suggested I do so. I still have a bit of trouble adjusting but I think it's easier for some games than others. For Portal 2 and Quake it was fairly easy for me to adjust, for Half-Life and Deus Ex I struggled.

That's an understatement

A stick to move and a stick to look just feel so comfortable to me, it's hard to re-program myself.

Is there any reason not to play FPS on keyboard and Mouse on PC? Whether you desire to be a pro player or just want to stay relevant playing any competitive online FPS on PC you need the best/most precise Mouse you can get.

There are SP FPS games.

Yet there is no reason for that. Console FPS, in order to offset the lack of precision of the controllers, is designed with an aim assist feature: so the aim will auto adjust to your target without having to micromanage it.

Usually the PC version won't come with this aim assist feature, which let you in a terrble situation: the controller gameplay will feel much, much worse and crippled than the console version.

Not all FPS games have mouselook though, Doom and Wolfenstein 3D for example. I know that it kind of a shift, but some people may have gotten used to playing FPS games on a controller and prefer using it even on PC games.

Shooters are, for the most part, absolutely awful without a mouse. Games like Uncharted manage to get a pretty decent feeling even with a controller, but then again, Uncharted also has a lot of other stuff that makes playing the games enjoyable.

Oh, in case you couldn't guess it, I play my shooters with a mouse and keyboard. Generally, they're just not enjoyable at all otherwise.

Basically FPS/TPS designed for consoles have an aim assist feature that offsets the lack of precision fo the controlles, so the aim will adjust for your target so you don't need to micromanage it, whereas the PC version don't come with such feature, which makes the controller gameplay on PC much worse than the console.

Consoles version of Doom has aim assist, but has the option to turn it off. Which is just a terrible idea, mainly for nightmare.

I meant the original Doom.

Analog sticks are fairly awful for aiming, especially sniping from a distance.

Reminds me of the time a coworker was going on about how console gaming is superior. I was trying to be diplomatic by saying that each had their strengths but that just made him take offense. He scornfully asked what could possibly be better on PC than console. I said, "well, aiming with a mouse," thinking it was something that everyone could agree with, but he said, "that's not true, aiming with analog sticks is just as effective." I probably looked at him like he was an idiot but I was honestly stunned into silence.

Either DS4 or Xbox One controller.

Mouse+keyboard sucks for FPS games!

Trolling is not allowed on the forums, Ka-Pi.

I learned long ago that I hate playing FPSs on consoles. The speed and accuracy of a mouse is so much higher than that of an analog stick that there's no contest here.

The only advantage of a controler comes when moving your character, where the analog stick is superior than WASD, although the keyboard makes yup for that with the extra buttons that make things like swith weapons more easily.

On that regard, I've always wanted to try a gaming keypad to get the best of a keyboard and a gamepad, but they're expensive and have to be configured to properly work.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

K&M is better obviously but it has such a short gap between the barrier of entry and the skill ceiling I gave up on it years ago. Duel analogue is worse but it takes so much more effort to get your skills up it ends up being more enjoyable both in singleplayer and MP.

Even though K&M is not the main reason I'd skip any MP game on PC besides for strategy. Hackers be everywhere and have no shame these days even to hide it.

I found that to be the exact opposite ...

Usually, console developers will just give the players aim assist and they don't have to do anymore than aim in the general direction of the targets along with having some good game sense but if you play a truly competitive FPS on PC then there's very little room for mistakes that you can afford such as not clearing the corners or aiming head height cause aiming with a mouse is just that much damn superior ...

It depend on the game, if it's competitive FPS like Battlefield , COD, Counter Strike, ARMA, UNREAL, QUAKE, Fortnight, etc, it's more convenience to play with mouse and Keyboard. While games like Far Cry, Fallout, Deus Ex, are enjoyable to play with gamepad.
