The AMD vs NVIDIA rivalry is well known, and this article shows how much "statistics tweaking" must be done to have a good PR headline.

NVIDIA claims -  #1 Gaming Platform  - But they didn't specify PC gaming.

AMD claims -  53% of gamers are gaming on a Radeon platform  -  but only on x86 (not ARM) processors -  which excludes Nintendo SWITCH with its 16+ million NVIDIA Tegra consoles.

The article seems to state that Nvidia claimed this literally more than a year ago. 

I would say it's quite funny to hit back an entire year later. 

They say that Radeon covers more than Intel and Nvidia combined, but why does that matter when Intel's marketshare is so small on the GPU front? 

If Nvidia really does have 66% of the PC market and 16 million Switch units as well as however many Nvidia consoles were sold then it's only a matter of time till this supposed gap decreases. I guess it depends actually how much gaming platforms there are for PC, and also if cryptomining pcs using gaming-marketed  count as such. 

Actually, why does it even matter? Being the #1 Gaming Platform doesn't have to do inherently with popularity. It can mean many things. And besides the gap is probably considerably small, if any. 

Unfortunatelly, AMD is so far behind nVidia in PC space that it feels almost like there's no one but nVidia at the moment.
I was with ATI/AMD for almost 15 years (my last nVidia before them was Geforce4 Ti 4400, back in 2002), but this year I got back to nVidia - I'm hoping they will manage to do with their GPUs what they've done with Ryzen in CPU space, having nVidia so dominant is never good for prices.

Except that this is not talking about exclusively the PC platform.

Well it's also not talking about the entire console space, so it's a pretty useless comparison all things considered.

You can make the case for Nvidia being better but the reality is what with consoles, APU's in the PCs and dedicated Radeon GPU's surely AMD is far more significant in gaming. You could make the case for  integrated Intel GPU's in PCs but I think typically that would be a sign of a PC not being used for gaming.

I guess though with many people playing most on their mobile phones you should factor in those in the gaming mix.

There you have powervr, mali and qualcomm in many hundreds of millions of devices, phones, tablets, set top boxes etc. Yeah looking at the statistics with both PCs and portable gaming systems having lower use. I think maybe mali is the most used gaming GPU. It's hugely popular in both mobile phones and tablets around the world and tablets seem to have significant gaming use too.

So Nvidia #1 Gaming Platform is a claim without any basis in reality surely. Now if they wanted to claim Nvidia is the most expensive premium GPU technology used by the fewest gamers that would work very well looking at the statistics.

It is a stupid claim without any qualifiers. It's not like people on consoles are choosing their GPU manufacturer. AMD is not so prevalent on consoles because people love AMD, Switch is not that successful because people love Nvidia.

So the old rule from the past decades still stands. Nvidia is the GPU maker of choice for you, AMD is the GPU maker of choice for your wallet.

Nvidia is having a rough go in my gaming world. Last gen was much better as I made a PC with SLI, and bought a 2nd pre-built PC with an Nvidia card. Also had 2 PS3's I actively used.

At this point It looks like AMD will have the edge for quite a while if Sony and MS stick with them.
