"upgraded and not changed"

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

No, he means re-balanced with minor tweaks, instead of changing the entire freaking genre like they've chosen to do.  If it's not a Turn-Based RPG, it's not Final Fantasy 7.

I recall some users asking for something new and different like real-time rather than the turn-based gameplay from before.

Why wouldn't Square try to surpass. What's the point of remaking it if you aren't going to improve on it?

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

No True Scotsman.

That said, it' snot FFVII.  It's FFVIIR.

*eyeroll*

Sorry, it's pretty universal that people want remakes to remain at LEAST in the same genre as the original game, and will not even acknowledge it's existence otherwise.  Who asks for a remake when they didn't even like the TYPE of game that the original was?

No one will remember the remake in 20 years. Only the original will be remembered favorably by history. Remakes are cash grabs. Originals are works of originality, creativity and art. The originals reshape the entire industry. Remakes are cheap imitations.

My hype for this game is the same as it was since day 1. IE: It doesn't really matter what they show or say until there is a release date. Even KH3 doesn't have a release date, despite the rumors for this year.

They're not rumors, it's officially confirmed, like, the last few trailers had a "Coming 2018" at the end.

If KH3's release date isn't revealed at this years E3 in a few months, then it's not coming out in 2018 - despite that recent trailers "2018" reveal at the end.

Nobody will remember the Remake at all if Tetsuya Nomura has his way and turns this into another one of his egomaniacal endeavors.

You can tell with FF15 where the 5 years of Tetsuya Nomura's development went towards before he was forced off and Tabata took over. Spoiler:

Famous Last Words...

When you have a master piece imo, you stick to the script.
I wish they had kept combat as it was, and just done a overhaul with newer graphics.

I think that's what just about everyone wanted.

But...

Tetsuya Nomura happened, and as soon as everyone saw that he was the Director in the reveal trailer - all of our hearts sank with despair from the realization that FF7 Remake is going to be a looooooooong wait because of him...

Reminds me of this excellent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEGerxOD0ig

I like videos like this that kind of have a moving plot behind them.

Wow, this seemed done in few takes.

Whatever the case, I don't think there's anything wrong with remakes: not like the original ceases to exist...

I will agree though the reaction to the trailer is cringe. It's cool to be excited about something but hold back until AFTER said product is out to see if it's good or not... Otherwise you just come off as a sucker to manipulative, corporate marketing machinery. Three years later and still little to show for it.

I purposely didn't allow myself to get excited when it was first revealed, because I was 99% sure they were going to bastardize it into an ARPG, and I'd just end up watching it on YouTube instead of playing it.

I'm really glad, since the end result would have been so much more soul-crushing.
