BotW is best game of this gen. That is my opinion, which is shared by many. You can have your own opinion. That is fine. Done.

I agree. The praise it got was just on another level. It’s a generation defining game that will be remembered for that by ages, while I think GoW will be regarded as something excellent, like Uncharted 2 or Super Mario Odyssey.

Btw, I’m enjoying GoW so far, and that’s surprising cause since reveal It felt like a letdown for me, but thankfully that had more to do with the reveal trailer (don’t know how far I’m from completing it, probably still a good way to go, just beat the two brothers), but I don’t think it will come close to Zelda for me unless something drastic happens. Atreus is a pain in the ass, the story is dull so far and the combat too easy. On the good side it has otherwordly graphics (makes me excited to see what PS5 can bring, Kratos is a more likable character now, the setpieces are varied and the feeling of the combat is very good. I’m also curious to see where it leads us.

Not to mention one of the most impactful launch games ever. It radically changed the gameplay of previous 3D iterations, and it was executed well even though it was their first real modern open world game. The other thing that was interesting to notice is how long people were still talking about it on forums, Youtube etc. It certainly left an impression on people, good or bad.

Particle effects better in Horizon is false. If there is one thing GOW kills every game with its those particle effects. Infamous: Second Son has better particle effects than Horizon. God of War has the best of any game I've played. Character textures are better as well.

Do you play on OG PS4 or PS4 Pro? I've beaten Horizon twice on my Pro with a 4K HDR Sony Bravia, and currently playing God of War - and the particle effects are in Guerilla Games' favor. I'm not saying GOW's particle effects are  garbage, just that HZD's is better - especially when fighting Thunderjaws and Behemoths.

The ice particles in GOW are impressive though.

I've played the games on PS4 but from videos I know there isn't any difference apart from resolution and framerate in the PS4 and Pro versions. Horizon's particle effects are shinier and prettier and God of War's particle effects are denser and look more lifelike. Digital Foundry says this too in their God of War analysis.

Combat being easy depends on your difficulty. Playing normal and easy will be relatively easy. If you're looking for a tough time play on hard or very hard, its way harder than any Souls game. Zelda combat on the other hand is not just easy but also infuriating over longer stretches of time because of how quickly weapons degrade. Zelda doesn't have nearly as much mechanical complexity to the combat and enemy variety as God of War. God of War is a hack and slash game whose combat I'd say rivals the likes of Bayonetta 2 by the end game. Zelda is no match for it combat wise.

The story is amazing for me and most people. Atreus is a child, I don't think you know how kids are like though Atreus is less annoying than almost any kid I know. The story itself is damn amazing, way better than any Naughty Dog game and generations ahead of what BOTW's non existant story does.

I have no problem if you don't like GOW as much as Zelda, but if you're going to say its worse for some reasons pick the right reasons atleast. You could have said Zelda has better puzzles and does many new things while God of War perfects existing mechanics in various genres and that Zelda will be remembered more because of that and I agree. I say this as I pick Zelda for my GOTY 2017 and God of War as my GOTG and maybe it ends up being my GOAT though its not had the impact that Dark Souls did.

then the next big AAA game comes out and that will be labeled ''best game of the generation''. Its the honeymoon period. Same thing happened with BOTW,Uncharted 4,etc

Difference being people still say BotW is the best.

Slow down, there. Game has been out for less than a week and you've already deemed it your game of the generation, and possibly best game of all time. I'm going to type out a more thorough reply in the other thread, as I like this debate.

I've completed the game. Played it like 40 hours. That's enough for me to make such a judgement.

Fine, but you can only have one favorite game of all time, those are the rules, and when the next big game comes out I call dibs on it being MY favorite. It's late and I have no idea what I'm talking about. Good night.

Yeahyeahyeah. To each his own. But... the combat to easy? That is just ridiculous and makes your whole statement questionable.

Hunting Season is done...

The more I think back on my time with this game the more it ages in my mind like a fine wine. I've plat'd the game and continued to upgrade my gear after wards and have tried exhausting the boat lore but it seems never ending. Had it on for three hours yesterday while cooking amd tidying up and the were still chatting new stories and even stuff that tied back to the main game. Love how detailed, and after looking into, true to the mythos they've made this and how very entertaing. I usually have trouble remember Baltic names and places but here they did it so well I know them all now, the gods, Giants and all the mythos surrounding them has never been so fresh in my mind. I even started tuning Helllades lore out at a certain point because I could recognize the names after they'd be brought up a second time.
This is the best exclusive first party game of the gen for me and I know for a fact GoW 2 will perhaps be my favourite game of all time, if Santa monicas other sequel progression is anything to go by. I hope the keep the same world in general around the lake of the nine and keep the bridge and realm portal and just use the world serpent to alter the landscape. Or perhaps locate the next games map in another realm and have midgard as a side realm. So much potential and it'd mean they'd have less work to do getting it to us sooner if they skip the DLC train. 2022 maybe?...hopefully.

Everything in the above reply is my opinion, from my own perspective and not representative of reality outside of my own head!

-Android user, please be gentle with critique on my spelling.

I'm loving it, I'm impressed, happy like a kid :) Santa Monica has done something special, the best game on PS4 for me.
