Forums - Gaming Discussion - God of War is probably the best game of this generation so far

I plan to get the game soon, but if the combat is anywhere near as bad as Hellblade's was, and it looks to be so, that will be a very gross overstatement.

I trying to go into this game with optimism, and its combat already looks better than HB's seeing as the moveset seems more complex and you can actually control the camera here, but it still looks eerily similar to that game, which scares the crap out of me, especially when GoW was pretty much the only relevant slasher made in and for the west. This looks like a cataclysmic downgrade in gameplay by comparison.

The story looks better though so I genuinely don't know how I'll feel. I never hated the old stories though - I really don't know.

I have no idea what you're talking about (didn't play Hellblade),but the combat is great and just keeps getting better since you add more and more available moves. It's fluid, violent, quite diverse, and just a joy to play.

Unfortunately, because you didn't play Hellblade, that doesn't really make me feel better. Some people praised Hellblade's combat as well in very similar ways, and it was very not good. Knowing what I've played of Hellblade and how identical this looks to that, albeit way beefier, it's hard for me to be optimistic there.

I can say though that a lot of what I hated was how stiff Hellblade was because of the camera, and though I really don't like the camera in this game, at least it appears as though you can freely manipulate it during combat. I think the retractable axe gimmick looks interesting, as well.

I agree. Looking at the two - I think Horizon still has better character textures and particle effects. Like god damn, you can see Aloy's iris patterns in her eyes - thats nuts.

I really don't remember Horizon being THATTTT detailed ... but that's probably because I was so busy playing the sidequests and exploring the world, which all looked great but a tad flat. You guys are making me want to replay Horizon after GOW so I can compare Man that game was so good

This game is awesome and this is coming from someone who didn't care for Horizon and thought games like TLOU was good, but nothing great.

I have A screenshot thread on this, I suggest you visit it to see how detailed that game is.

Hehe, my exaggerated "THAATTT" is a bit much. I do remember being the game really detailed, just don't remember it being to the level of humans being incomparable to GOW's. And sure, I'll check it out!

I've played Hellblade and i stopped playing because of the combat. God of Wars combat isn't even comparable in the slightest, so you shouldn't worry.

God of War combat isn't anything like Hellblade combat, and the enemy variety is far superior. Its still a hack and slash game. I'm 20 hours in and the combat is better than every God of War game other than 3. I haven't unlocked all the upgrades.

You get the Blades of Chaos later in the game and has a similar moveset to the ones in previous games.

Particle effects better in Horizon is false. If there is one thing GOW kills every game with its those particle effects. Infamous: Second Son has better particle effects than Horizon. God of War has the best of any game I've played. Character textures are better as well.

I loved Horizon and liked TLOU but I digress.

then the next big AAA game comes out and that will be labeled ''best game of the generation''. Its the honeymoon period. Same thing happened with BOTW,Uncharted 4,etc

i like that... honeymoon period describes it perfectly.

it looks like an incredible game, but let’s be fair: depending on taste, there are many different games that could be “best game of the generation”. let’s just enjoy the games and understand differing opinions are a normality and should be cherished instead of attacked.

Play Bloodborne and its DLC before making your final decision. Haven't played GoW yet.
