I am not quite finished I am more than half way there tho.  What is your favorite game of this year so far?

I don't think it comes close to Horizon in a game of the generation.

fix the (stupidly) small on-screen text, the repetitive kill moves on monsters of the same type and white text on mostly white backgrounds and it could be improved. but not enough to beat Horizon.

HDR 4K TV seems to not have a problem with the text.  As for the kill moves they are contextual.  Meaning they change depending on when they are executed.  Not a great varity but then again no game really has a lot of them.  Horizon for some got very repetitive the more you played it.  I know it was that way for me but still a high water mark.  Currently GOW is trending better for me mid way within the game then Horizon did.  As for GOTY, not sure if GOW 4 will hit that mark but will see.

I haven'yt finished the main story yet, but I am thiking i should just finish it after having my ass handed to me with some side content I was doing. I think I spent over 10hrs today trying to beat a particular Valkyrie..... sigh.

As for GOTG for me, well I just can't think of any other game I played this gen that got me hooked like this one.

Seriously, people insisted there were frame drops but I have yet to experience any lag. To me it feels like a constant 60 fps and for me far and away superior to the graphics mode. I have 4K and switched between the two modes and saw little difference (if any) in image quality. But the smooth framerate was INSTANTLY noticeable and adds so much to the immersion and gameplay. I cannot believe they got a game with such immense detail to run this well.

I agree with what you have stated here but honestly, don't expect Last of Us 2 to look THAT much better. GOW is just s slight step above Horizon. Everything Horizon didn't have, like particular particle effects or other tiny details GOW has - that is the difference. Texture work and artwork is on par I'd say. Overall, of course GOW to me stands out more because the world is just so much more appealing to me.

It's definitely a contender. Though once this generation has had it's day and we'll be playing the PS5 - I think either Cyberpunk 2077 or The Last of Us 2 will crowned "Greatest Game of it's Generation".

I agree. Looking at the two - I think Horizon still has better character textures and particle effects. Like god damn, you can see Aloy's iris patterns in her eyes - thats nuts.

I plan to get the game soon, but if the combat is anywhere near as bad as Hellblade's was, and it looks to be so, that will be a very gross overstatement.

I trying to go into this game with optimism, and its combat already looks better than HB's seeing as the moveset seems more complex and you can actually control the camera here, but it still looks eerily similar to that game, which scares the crap out of me, especially when GoW was pretty much the only relevant slasher made in and for the west. This looks like a cataclysmic downgrade in gameplay by comparison.

The story looks better though so I genuinely don't know how I'll feel. I never hated the old stories though - I really don't know.
