Forums - Gaming Discussion - Edge #319 - Dark Souls Remastered cover - Scores: God of War, Far Cry 5, more.

They are very harsh on their reviews. But 8 is still a great score.

Essentially an 8 from Edge is the same as 90 from IGN. Which is a good score. I actually wish more companies would use more Edge like scale.

Sony should stop sending edge games to review. Edge is so nintendo biased

They have a strange way of showing this bias you speak of.

The Far Cry 5 review just came out? I wonder why they haven't switched to online reviews yet.

I imagine if they have working formula even in a dead print, and are successful. Why would you switch. Why be a dime a dozen.

Good old EDGE, did not even used GoW for the cover but a remaster.

Kratos doesn't need to be on the cover of Edge when he's on the cover of Men's Health.

Yeah, but then they give SMO a 10 and suddenly their reviews are just like everyone else. Edge probably SHOULD have realistically given SMO a 9 not a 10 based on their scale. The 10 just definitely shows they are Nintendo biased. As if SMO is THAT much better than GOW. 0.2 difference on metacritic.

ANyway, Edge just wants to be different unless it's key Nintendo franchises. They are definitely checking out meta before they place their own scores while everyone else just scores how they feel about the game. And when it comes to Nintendo, everyone just treats them like they no their stuff simply because they were the first in the business. I know for a fact that is the reason. They DO make great games, but honestly they are no different to some of the great games other companies make now.

Maybe it is so, to them. Good lord.

Only the Dog of War DLC could improve God of War's score.

Playstation Exclusives: 4
Nintendo Exclusives: 8
Xbox Exclusives: 1

In conclusion, Edge are biased against Xbox exclusives.

On a serious note, I'm pretty sure their staff has changed a lot over the past few decades. So I would neither look back 20 years, nor only look at perfect 10 scores, to gauge how they tend to score games in recent times.

So the goalpost moved to exclusives. Like that somehow makes it a non-Playstation game. Look at what you're suggesting man. Wow.

Also on a serious note, they go long ways back. But quality wise they have stayed consistent imo. They did rescore some older games though.

But they won't. They still have this "7.9 and below is mediocre" scale, which spans outside games. I do agree with you, but that perspective will be ingrained in most people's minds. People still see a 7 as a bad score on most places. In school, for instance, a 7 is associated with the mediocre and disappointing "C", so most people drag that scoring perception everywhere else.

If more reviewers take it as standard, will it change people's perspective on the rating system? Unlikely. It needs more time and a lot of fights like these.
