Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One is the best console if you don't care about exclusive new games - The Verge

It's not severely lacking in software. Many of the marquee "AAA" games are available on both PS4 and XOne. Grand Theft Auto, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, FIFA, Call of Duty, Madden, Battlefront, Battlefield, Shadow of Mordor, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, etc. PS4 has more noteworthy exclusive games, sure, but let's not pretend the Xbox ecosystem is barren.

And maybe people really want to play those high-profile games in 4K, and maybe they like having three generations of Xbox titles playable on one platform.

I just think we should be a little more accommodating to folks who genuinely prefer Xbox. Being in a minority doesn't make them wrong.

But those games are also on PS4. That's the question. PS4 has all of those games and more. And it will always have more, because for some reason some third party developers prefer PS4 and because Sony has more studios. I think it's fair that some people want to stick with the Xbox One for the "best version" of those high profile third party games and games from years ago, but why pretend the Xbox One is the best console when it all comes down to games at the end of the day and there are some experiences you just can't have with Xbox? I just want them to start making amazing games and stop reliying on EA and Activision, because I don't want EA and Activision anymore, not even for free.

And I agree. PS4 is better than Xbox One. It gets better indies, more Japanese AA support, and its internally-developed games are, on average, superior.

For some people, though, our reasons for preferring Sony or Nintendo might not not mean much. Perhaps they like the Xbox community or the achievements or the online-multiplayer-focused titles. Maybe backward compatibility is a big deal. Maybe Game Pass is a big deal.

I just want people to stop making others feel bad about their gaming tastes, and to stop proselytizing. For one side to "win," the other side doesn't necessarily have to "lose."

Oh. that's right !

Remember when Mattrick got attacked for saying "We have the 360 for offline play"?

He was right all along, now people are defending the One because it can play some 360 games, which is what he offered at the time. That guy was way ahead of its time actually.

Consoles are defined by exclusives. Without those, PC is superior, every single time.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

  • You can play all single player XBO games offline on the Xbox One.
  • You can play all single player BC Xbox360 games offline on the Xbox One.
  • You can play all single player BC original Xbox games offline on the Xbox One.

So obviously he was wrong eventually.

The main purpose of consoles is to play games and entertain on affordable hardware. Exclusives are just a bonus.

For me personal console exclusives are very important since I always had and always will have a good gaming PC for multiplatform games.

But I can think outside the box of my personal preferences... and there are millions of people who only have one gaming system and won't get a second or third system for years. For millions of children the PS4 or Xbox One or Switch will be their first console ever... and no matter if it is a PS4 or Xbox One, both have a catalog of around 2000 games (and several hundred good games among them), many of these games for very affordable prices. Switch will get there, too.

Well its true, I would also said X best console for 4K gaming.

I agree. By far the best network, best controller, and best UI imho. I haven't cared about exclusives all gen, mostly because both companies have (again, imho) been rather meh in that department.

Microsoft:
Ryse
Dead Rising 3
Cuphead
Quantum Break
Super Time Force
Ori (regular and definitive)
ReCore
Rare Replay

Sony:
Bloodborne
#Driveclub
Horizon
Bought my son Hidden Agenda because he loved Until Dawn
I will buy GoW in a couple days so might as well list it

These lists don't include anything I got "free" via the various subscriptions and I might be forgetting some on either side but I doubt it.

There's just too much extremely good third party stuff for me to give a crap about whether or not something is exclusive, and there's never a lack of anything to play.
