Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One is the best console if you don't care about exclusive new games - The Verge

If backwards compatibility and biggest library of old games that still run as well as multi-platform games is ALL you care about, then you might as well just get a PC!! With MAME and every other known emulator you can play PC games from 40 years ago, as well as Consoles games too, all on your PC. You don't need an Xbox One for that.

If this was announced when the console was released and there was no kinectic gimmick increasing its price I think microsoft would be able to retain part of the players who ,igrated to ps4. Ps4 would still win, but xbone numbers would be much better. Alsp I would love to know the sales of the xbonex

2: Netflix is not behind the paywall. That requirement was taken out in 2014.

5: it is an advantage, so why would I not list it? I again I never defended the the base X1's lack of power. I still think it's underpowered.

2 - Did you purposely ignored the "over all the years" on my original comment?

5 - If a list of 10 items is weaker than 1 single item against it them it is a rather dull exercise.

2- I don't care what you're talking about. I'm talking about what happening right NOW.

5- that's your opinion.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

1 - are you talking about refunds? Cause you can do this on playstation easy, just make a call.

2 - alson can do this on playstation, whit psplus.

3 - talking about pro-controller? If yes, than i have to agree, that thing is expensive, but sure is another level, but... about the normal controller, it's a metter of opinion, but i find the DS4 miles better than the x1 standard controller...

4 - for real... do you have a ps4? Mine is quiet, just can't hear any sound while i'm playing.

5- $100 more expensive...

6- do you have some data? Something from the last 2 years? I see lots of people saying live is better, but is see no data.

Getting a refund for Star Wars Battlefront because I wanted to buy the Digital Deluxe Version instead of the regular version was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. The lady actually said that "I've done this too many times already". I had never gotten a refund before and was trying to buy THE MORE EXPENSIVE VERSION.

It wasn't until I asked her to tell me when I'd ever gotten a refund before and she saw that I spent thousands on digital games that she authorized the refund. I hadn't even downloaded the game or played a single second of it.

Meanwhile, on Xbox One I had bought PUBG and realized that, after several matches, it totally sucked. I just clicked "refund" and my money was returned.

I actually haven't read the rest of your post but the easy refund thing is totally false!

*Edit*

2: I have multiple PS4s and Xbox Ones. I've said it repeatedly on this site but, on Xbox, playing a game is like watching a YouTube or Netflix movie. You can play a level, turn off the system (or even leave it on). Go to another console later on and jump in right where you left off in seconds. For FREE!

I have two PS4s. Even when I had PS+, only the primary PS4 would automatically update to the cloud. It would only do it once per day. Other than that, you have to manually upload your save and then manually download the save on a second console. It's really cumbersome. You can copy your save data to a USB device, though.

4. I have a PS4 Pro and a regular PS4. Playing God of War on the Pro last night, it would sound like a jet engine! It would stop after a while but it would start again. Maybe every fifteen minutes.

1 - realy? I'm sorry for you, but i never got any problems. Got several refunds here in brazil, never got a problem. Edit. > the money comes back to my banks account, takes several days, 15 days perhaps, but i get real money back.

2 - you have a point, but... imho, thos realy is such a small thing. If this is a big deal for you than sure, nice extra, but otherwise.

3 - clean your cooler. Opening a ps4 is easy, unlike xbox. Look at a youtube video. My ps4 is quiet as #$#@, no problems whit sound here.

2) IMHO Xbox live is vastly superior than psn in almost every way imaginable at this point. I’ve used both plenty and it’s just an opinion. I spend most of my time doing online stuff so this is a big one.

It technically is superior to the Playstation Network.
Microsoft not only has more servers available thanks to Azure... But, they also spend more on bandwidth and have more peering arrangements with various CDN's.
Some providers in Australia will also capture the Xbox data traveling down PIPE (Using extremely expensive equipment) and push it onto their own CDN very early, which has ridiculous amounts of bandwidth and super low latency.

3) halo.... it’s actually 3 games currently mcc,halo 5, and hw2.

Master Chief Collection was and still is a buggy mess.
Halo Wars 2 isn't exclusive.
Halo 5 is probably the worst Halo mainline game yet.

Hoping the franchise gets back on track with Halo 6... But, Halo hasn't got the same luster as it once did during the Halo 3/Reach era that's for sure, it needs a good solid reboot, it worked for Call of Duty WW2 and Battlefield.

In Brazil it is common for PC games to launch about 140-160 (local currency) versus console at 250... Sony published are 200 which is a plus on console gaming.

That is a significant discrepancy all things considered.

That is the big advantage on offer here from Xbox.

Who indeed?

Impossible to facepalm any harder. That's a remake of a game that is 2 gens behind. Read the post, i don't very much enjoy wasting time. " I agree with the classic ones, but coming with a by the numbers comparison that includes last gen games "

Correction. It's a remake of a game already remastered once, for the PS3 no less. Keep working on that facepalm.

I actually agree. Almost everything is better on Xbox (compared to PS4) except the most important thing: the games.

The UI is better, the controller is better, the online subscription package is better, the BC is far better. But games trump all, and that's why Xbox One is inferior to PS4.

The xbox one is terrible I bought a one s to play with a few mates and games randomly close down/crash, All my mates experience this! the free games every month you don't get to keep where as on ps you do so how is the online subscription package better? I do like the xbox controller but thats about it, I can see myself selling this for the switch very soon.

The xbox may be the most powerful but clearly they don't know how to make use of the xbox one x power. Just look at god of war! it's easily the best looking game ever made, you need to have talent on your side to make use of the one x power and to produce amazing graphics along with games. Even digital foundry done a comparisons with gt sport and forza 7 and gt sport is the better looking more detailed game.

Then there's the player base, ps4 are always pretty much double the amount with each game bought compared to xbox so multiplayer games are going to die on xbox much quicker and not be as active.

The xbox one x isn't a huge leap over the ps4 pro, the xbox one x is only going to be a bit sharper in games with it hitting near the 4k mark compared to the ps but it's nothing special. If the specs are right about the ps5 then we really will see a powerhouse console, the bad thing about the pro and one x is that it's gpu limited due to the poor cpu. The ps5 is looking to be  much more balance hardware wise and the cpu and gpu will work amazingly well together and will be very powerful also,. The ps5 will be insane.

In Destiny 2, DOOM, The Division, Hellblade (another former 'exclusive') and Far Cry 5, the lowest resolution the X drops to, is still higher than the highest resolution the PS4 Pro can get to. With better frame rate, to boot. Wrap your brain around that for a second.

Nah, PS4 has a better controller and has PS+. Obviously the better library is the killer here.

Yep, and I'm kinda grateful for Sony to keep their published titles cheaper than the third parties in Brazil and competition (won't include Nintendo because their lack of representation makes several of their games to retail over 300), at the time conversion rate was at about 4:1 we were getting games "cheaper" than USA since the 200 was already with all taxes.

The price of the PC games may have changed since I don't follow it closely, but several of the titles I plan on getting my friend usually talks about them very near launch at obscene low prices on PC version.

My post was specifically directed at the original assertion that...

"Xbox One is the best console if you don't care about exclusive new games"

My other point is BC, whether done via Sony's crappy offering or all the development time Microsoft has invested, doesn't have any long term value, IMO. Gamers buy new consoles to play new games, whether that is a totally new IP or Version X+1 of the game that was on the last gen console, or a remastered version of a classic. No one wants to play ALL the crappy games from the last 7 generations, even if you did own them. There are only a few games each gen that push the boundaries of story, gameplay, graphics and might just be fun, that are worth bringing back as a remaster or re-imagining in future gens of a console. The vast majority are just poly-filla/bumph.

That is the reality of each generation.

So rather than spend that time/money on BC, Microsoft could have been investing that time/money in new gaming experiences that really take advantage of the Xbox One X's power. So many missed opportunities. SMH. Maybe they will pull a rabbit out of the bag at E3 and blow everyone away. But even if they do announce new IPs etc, those will take another year or so to hit the shelves. God of War was 5 years in development to get it to the state it is at today, with all the plaudits it has achieved. Microsoft need a AAA game that literally causes mouths to drop visually, a great story and amazing game mechanics. Gamers are getting used to quality across the board of a game, so Microsoft better step it up and grow up with their vision of games and what gamers expect.
