What defines consoles is playing on a television and with a controller.

Not exactly, you can do that with a PC too.

Still playing with a controller on a television is EXACTLY what defines console gaming, it's a native feature of consoles. PC got adapted to that later on because PC had to admit that it's a great idea but it's not originally speaking a PC thing.

Consoles are also natively speaking gaming machines which I need to remind you that PC's aren't.

That's ignoring home computers like the ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64 which where specifically made to be connected to a TV and use controllers.

Yes it is, I am speaking of PC's as PC's are today in the hands of most PC gamers...

But if you wish to take machines like the ZX Spectrum/Commodore into account then fine. First those are not the FIRST computers in history so my point still stands: Computers are NOT originally gaming machines, they got adapted and the ZX/Commodore are LATER adaptations.

Also one could further argue that since those machines are immediately plugged to a TV and a controller they are more like consoles than PC's proper, versatile consoles one could say since they allowed for functions that go beyond a simple console... And then again nowadays consoles go way beyond what a Commodore could do so for all practical purposes I see a Commodore more like a console than a PC proper. But I suppose you could argue that.

I don't have any stake in any of this thread's conversations but I'd like to correct the assertion that X360 wasn't BC. It very much supported software emulation of the original Xbox. Not all games were supported but the list was substantial enough to be considered decently BC at a minimum.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360

Will take your word on it =]

PS3 had BC (first HW and then emulated) and people happily traded it for lower cost.

Not me. 😡

My BC PS3 broke after I'd sold by PS2. So many games with no console to play them on! Luckily (?) most of the great ones got rereleased.

People buy consoles for games not a place that's "the best for gaming". That makes absolutely no sense, want to play 360 era games? Buy a 360 for one tenth the price of an X1. What to play Xbox "exclusives"?

Where do I get an Xbox 360 in working condition with controller, HDD and all necessary cables for 20 bucks?

We could say the same of BC... Xbox didn't had a prior gen, X360 wasn't BC, X1 got BC middle gen and is limited.... but now it is all important?

But Kinect has some of the worst games of 360. They are suddenly important just now, after being shitted on for years. No one cares about Kinect. Xbox One launch is the evidence. People care about old games. Countless remasters coming out on newer consoles proves that.

Sure I agree Kinect games were bad, still they won't be BC on X1, that was the guy point... so if you bring the "now it matters" then you also have to bring it on the fact that before X1 didn't have it.

And countless remasters prove exactly the opposite, that people want to play those old games but on current graphical capabilities. People keeping old systems is what would prove interest in keep playing the old games.

Don't know how could you live before Xbox made the BC... and not all games work... are you a PC gamer?

I didn't get an Xbox One until 2016. Before the BC I would've never got the console.

and the other consoles?

You are one unlucky fellow ( I would have bought a BC console as well if I were in position to buy a PS3 near launch), but the market at large much preferred the lower price than the BC.

I paid 50 bucks with like 10 games, does that qualify?

In USA I suppose. I bought one in 2009 for $50 with controller, and a few games. Shouldn't be too hard nowadays.

No, that doesn't qualify as one tenth the price. You can also buy a used Xbox One with a bunch of games for 150 - 200 bucks:

I enjoyed most kinect games actually.  Silly, mindless, and good exercise.  Kinect sports 1 and 2 were fantastic.  I never got the third one because it sounds like a disaster.

Also there was a DBZ one that was goofy.  One of my first thoughts when I heard about the BC was trying old games with a new kinect. Then I learned that isn't possible.

Never actually found it why it wasn't possible. Guess Kinect two is so different than kinect one that it there is no comparability?

So I'm serious when I said 99% of my xbox 360 library isn't playable on the Xbox one. It consists of games like Tales of Vesperia, and kinect games. The only one that is playable is Alan wake.  I got a code for that when I Bought quantum break. I gave it to a friend.

I do like movement games and VR, but for the market Kinect fast became a bad product and most of the games weren't really good productions... on the PS front only a few games were really good as well (I did love Punch Lights Out)

Guess people don't want to stick around with theirs X1 then.
