It's been awhile since I've been on here, and to my surprise I saw a like system on the forum threads. At first, I didn't give it much thought, but I'm not sure if this will be beneficial in the long run.

A like/dislike system is flawed whether it has likes only or dislikes too. Seeing social media (Facebook, Youtube, etc.) with likes only and sites with likes/dislikes (Reddit) shows that likes are frighteningly capable of manipulating people easily. Many conversations on here become polarized very quickly reason why I took a break in all topics, and in all honesty I'm not sure if a like system is what the site really needs.

If a like system should be implemented, it should be on the original post only. Users should like/dislike threads they believe are high quality, and similarly to Reddit it would push threads deemed higher quality upward. It would promote an increase of quality in all posts, and avoid threads deemed baiting/unneeded/etc.

Granted, I haven't been on here for awhile, and I don't want to place too much weight on my opinion. It's simply something I thought was worth discussing

It was just added yesterday.

As long as there's no dislike it's okay.

If someone asks why I'm using an alt account, CGI and Truckusaurus got me a temp approval until I get my iconic and notorious "kurasakiichimaru" account back. :p

Personally I dont care much either way.If your post is popular, people will quote you to tell why they agree with you, and if its not popular, then it will either be ignored or it will be quoted to tell him why he dosent agree with that person views.A like system just makes some of that more passive, thats all.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

A while ago I thought that this site needed a "like post" functionality, and it has been applied in a good way. As long as it doesn't have a dislike button next to it, it won't be that detrimental. "If you don't have anything nice to say..." and all of that shebang.

This site cannot possible have a dislike button for the main forums.
People abuse it for no reason, they don't deserve such power.
So the like only system is better than like and dislike, at least here (probably on 99% of the internet as well).

It's still too early to really know if adding a like button will have any long-term effects, I'm so used to it not being there that I don't even check it most of the time.

I'll admit I was a little disappointed to see it... I just don't get why we feel the need to express an opinion on every damn thing under the sun today lol (and yes, I realize I'm literally doing that right now).

I think likes/dislikes have been the bane of social media and an overwhelming negative as a whole. Frankly, I'm just fairly sick of seeing them, as I miss the days when "likes" and "dislikes" came in the form of written replies lol... it just feels like it promotes lazy opinions and encourages people not so much to speak their mind but rather to say whatever they think would be most popular with their peers.

Still, it's not a big deal, though if dislikes or emoji reactions are added I'll be very disappointed heh; at the very least, pleeease don't associate any badges with them or we'll see the same popularity contest showing up that dominates twitter and Facebook.

Against. Just adds an incentive to "point farm" and change their way of posting to maximize said points. Conversations should be as genuine as possible and not as an aim to gain imaginary points or attention. There was already enough of that without the Like system.

Any "like" button will equally be abused. All it does is help turn discussions into popularity contests where people where foolishly argue that their posts are more valid than the person they're arguing against because their posts have more likes.

The only thing it's going to lead to is more divided message boards.
