Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Death of the Virtual Console as We Know It

Nintendo is unpredictable. I don't even try. Maybe it's dead. Maybe it'll come with a tiny CRT Labo TV and original controller support. We just don't know.

Exactly.

I think it's still possible we'll see some retro games return to Nintendo whether they're in a VC format or just coming onto the Eshop. SNK's been launching their own classic games since the launch of the switch, so it's likely others will come later.

The fact that a year in there is still no mention of the Virtual Console, plus the existence of the NES Classic and SNES Classic, definitely has me thinking the VC won't exist in its normal format on Switch. I think they'll probably just have a game selection as part of the online subscription (which they've already announced they would right?) and thats it. Like a mini-netflix for games. It's a different model so that way they can get people to buy that but also buy their mini consoles.

It's hard as hell being a fan because of it. PS fans knew automatically that they would get an online service at least on par with Live on 360 with the next generation of consoles. Switch owners probably still won't get one. The Wii U was when they should have gotten it right, but the writing was on the wall with the 3DS. The Vita was an improvement over the PS3's PSN experience.

Now we can't even expect the basics to come in a reasonable time. It's probably best for third parties though. Nintendo's software is healthy on the system, but they'd definitely be making more if they sell their catalog again.

Meh... all of it, virtual console included is pointless for me due to in-put lag. Even the SNES Classic lags compared to the original games on a CRT. So, I really don't care either way.

Well, that's because CRTs don't have an input lag, but all LCD/Plasma/OLED do. As far as I heard, if you connect the NES Mini to a CRT TV (there exist a handful with a HDMI connector, otherwise you'll need an adaptor) there's no lag anymore.

Not necessary, its seems that Virtual Console news are tied to paid online launch, so we cant say that Virtual Console is dead until we actually get paid online and know everything about it.

Kinda weird to think that the switch is so successful considering how little effort was put into ... well .... pretty much the entire system except the hardware.

I cant tell you are serious or not. Switch has good concept, great big system seller games and good branding/marketing, all things that are important for succes of Nintendo platform, and for instance that Wii U didnt had.

Oh. Good arguments. Those points are irrefutable. Nevermind, I change my mind. You're right.
