Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 and Xbox One exclusive titles aren't that impressive

Games above 80 MC lets say, only on PS4 or X1, aren't remasters or remakes. What do we have?

PS4:

  • God Of War
  • Uncharted 4
  • Bloodborne
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • The Last Guardian
  • Infamous Second Son
  • Yakuza 6
  • Gravity Rush 2
  • Moss

X1:

  • Halo 5
  • Gears Of War 4
  • Forza 6
  • Forza 7
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • Sunset Overdrive

Compare that to PS3:

  • Uncharted 2
  • Uncharted 1
  • Uncharted 3
  • The Last Of Us
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • LittleBigPlanet 2
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • God Of War III
  • God Of War Ascension
  • Gran Turismo 5
  • Gran Turismo 6
  • Journey
  • Killzone 2
  • Killzone 3
  • Wipeout HD
  • Demon's Souls
  • Ratchet & Clank Tools Of Destruction
  • Ratchet & Clank A Crack In Time
  • Resistence
  • Resistence 2
  • Resistence 3
  • Heavy Rain
  • Infamous
  • Infamous 2
  • Yakuza 5
  • Motorstorm
  • Motorstorm Pacific Rift

What I see here is first off, game development this gen takes much longer resulting in less games. Credit to Insomniac though for Releasing a big AAA every 2 years like devs used to.

PS3 only vs PS4 only is a complete blow out. As for Xbox One, lol.

Reviewers used to be more generous with scores last gen, a +90 doesn´t come as easily nowadays..

I still don’t think this is a fair comparison until PS4 is completely done. Problem is that game development takes so long these days, even for big studios, to continue producing something that looks and plays better than the last. That being said, I still think PS4 is doing much better on the exclusives front in terms of overall quality for each individual title. I just hope Sony creates at least one high profile multiplayer-centric title to complement everything else they’re bringing out.

Also, if you’re going to include Xbox games that are on PC as well, why don’t you add games like Nier: Automata and NiOH to that PS4 list? Hell, Persona 5 is simply also on PS3, not a remaster or port. It should be up there as well.

If Meta scores are the only determining factors in what constitutes an ‘impressive game’, we’re in trouble.

Both platforms under the same scruitiny, so it's fair. I suppose you could include games like Until Dawn or LBP 3 as 'equivalent' releases from this gen regardless of metascore. But I mainly picked above 80 because there's just too many to list of we get into the 70's.

If you can count Xbox one games also on PC as fair game, you should count PS4 games that also are on PS3/Vita imo.
As a console "home" exclusive.

Otherwise you should probably remove all the xbox one exclusives that can also be played on pc from that list.

Persona 5 should be on that list imo for the PS4.

What about something like Final Fantasy XIV (also on pc, but not on xbox or switch) does that count for the PS4?
Same question but for NieR: Automata (thats also on pc, but not on xbox or switch) does that count for PS4?
What about The Talos Principle?
What about Nioh?

ect
ect
ect
..
.

If the list was more "fair" there would be a massive differnce between the two.

PC is largely in the same boat though.

Warhammer II
Civ VI Strategy
Hearts of Iron IV
Endless Legend
Endless Space II
Galactic Civilizations III
Age of Wonders III

All of them a single genre to boot. So if you don't happen to be a  massive fan of strategy games, PC won't offer much in way of modern exclusives.

And you forgot about Tearaway, Yakuza 0, DQ Builders, Disgaea 5, Moss, Hatsune Miku, etc on the PS4 side. Spiderman, LoU2 are coming. Yakuza remakes are such a massive leap over the original games that you shouldn't count them as remakes at all. Everything from the graphics to the gameplay was 100% overhauled for Kiwami and Kiwami 2.

And finally, P5 is still somewhat exclusive, to a degree. XB1 fans certainly can't play it. Those with weak PCs can't play it.

You're comparing 7 years worth of exclusive content to 4 and a bit years worth of exclusive content, which is an idiotic thing to do. Cut down that PS3 list to under 4 and a half years and you'll probably sitting at 11 or 12 games.

Dude the PS4 is at about 1/2 way through its life span of support, I would expect once the PS4 has had the same time span as its predecessor then we will see similar results.  Right now the PS4 has on its system 273 games with a metacritic score of 80 or above and the XBox has 178 so just this metric alone shows how important exclusives are almost a 100 game difference

Gravity Rush 2 is there. DQ Builders isn't PS4 only, it's on Vita and Switch. So is Disgaea 5. Yakuza Remakes are just that, Remakes of older games. I mean new games, otherwize I'd have included SoTC and stuff. Both lists are games that were released especially for that system. PS4 games just take much longer to develop.

Give it time, notice how the PS3 list is full of multiple games from the same series, reusing assets and engines.

Uncharted 1-3, Resistance 1-3, LBP 1/2, killzone 1/2, GT 5/6, infamous 1/2, and more.

No series is repeated on the PS4 list. Though perhaps Uncharted Lost Legacy should be there.
