What is this obsession with first party games? When playing a game, whether said game is first or third party or second party is the last question on my mind.

I feel the same.

With that said, for people that only wish to own one system, it is legitimate to consider the exclusive titles available on that system.  And, for the most part, the big exclusives are first-party.  Of course, most of this discussion (not this particular one, but this kind of discussion on gaming forums) is just fanboys flaming.

His words don't really fit their actions. Canceling games, closing studios and buying up already popular IPs are not signs of thinking in the long term.

I disagree.  Cancelling games and closing studios are, presumably, actions meant to ensure they're not putting out crap games.  That's important to the long term health of the brand and ecosystem.

That's a crappy excuse. 😹 Those weren't crap games. They were games people were interested in. MS isn't putting out many games to begin with, so cancelling any games or closing any studios capable of making games for their current gen console is retarded (meaning very foolish). Sony and Nintendo don't really cancel games for being less than satisfactory, they just stay in development longer to address any issues. That's the normal way to handle it. They can cancel any games if they wanted because they produce enough current gen games to offset it. MS needs to produce more games.

isnt it obvious? Look at the difference in quality of the games, when a studio has time, resources on one platform, , same with Nintendo. Sony's studios are honing there craft and getting better and better, and it is an investment into the product. It is a great asset to have talent like that invested in and have it to dig into as needed.

You thinking it is just fanboy babble says more about your thought process then anything.

So then, what do you suppose is the reason for game cancellations and studio closures?  They just wanted to not have stuff to sell?

MS wanted to push Game as Service bullshit. Devs didn't like it. Turned out shitty game. Got canned.

It all starts with the fucking stupid notion they had that everything has to be multiplayer focused. People will keep GamePass to play single player games too.

Sony realizing that third party already provide the biggest online multiplayer experience and the huge gaping hole in the single player market is one reason they are where they are as the market leaders right now (and will continue to be until they inevitably screw up due to their hubris again)

Following/Chasing Trends...always leads to a few good ones the rest saturated BS..these companies never learn.

I personally think this is not sad at all.At least Phil recognizes that their first party games state is not ideal, and they have work to do.The only worrying thing is that this is not the first time he said it, but then again, fixing a problem takes alot of time, probably more than the XOne has left.

So that brings me to the next point:If this is ever fixed, it will only be for the next generation.Yeah, we might get one or two great games from them here and there, but Phil and MS are probably either having their studios work on games that are for the next generation, or that are at the very least cross gen, or working on exclusive deals/games for the next generation. Not that XOne is in a bad position or anything(Its still selling okay), but they wont be able to make a big splasch on the industry with it anymore. So they will need to start anew.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

So an 11th Forza game. A 7th Halo game and a 6th Gears game are what xbox fans can look forward to?

Forza Horizon is different from Forza Motorsport. They play nothing alike. Forza Horizon 3 is a brilliant racing game and I'm a PlayStation fan and a PC gamer so no Xbox favouring there its just that good.

Forza Motorsport 7 is a good game too. Its not on the level of GT Sport though xD

I never commented on the quality of the games. I'm saying they're not doing anything new to bring in new players or reassure their current ones.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

I share this opinion.
The market cant support too many online only/focused games, and the place is crowded due to 3rd party doing alot of it.
While 3rd party simply do not do big epic single player games on the scales of Last of us / Uncharted / God of War ect.

Sony fills that "gap" and thus has a more varied overall library.
Ofc it helps that it plays into their strengths (single player focused story driven games), but that doesnt change the facts.

That would make sense, if MS had released quality games recently.

While I'm not a huge fan, the Forza Horizon games are almost universally considered excellent, and the regular Forza games are also widely praised.   Their other big series - Halo, Halo Wars, and Gears have all had very good entries this gen.  I can't think of anything they've put out that would be considered crap.

The thing about forza is the same with any other sport game. Yea they do good, but always to the same crowd. Even if its the best of its kind it will be largely ignored cuz it only appeals to the same group who buy it year after year. Halo and gears, while not crap, they have decreased in quality from their previous entries(not to sure about gears). Most likely due to series fatigue. I can think off a few crap games they have released, or just heavily criticized, luckys tale, halo wars 2, recore, quantum brake, rise probably more. While maybe not all crap, they where not well received.
