Wait, what?
First off all, no, it's not like Sony started investing in first party titles in 2007. Yes, after the disastrous launch of PS3 Sony needed to reinvest in first-party games, but the PS1 and PS2 eras had a lot of Sony-published titles. In fact, I'd argue PS2 was the company's best era for homegrown games. Titles like Ico, SotC, Jak, Ratchet, GoW, and others made 2001-2007 a halcyon age for Sony.
As for Phil, I'm done. It's enough already. I don't think I've ever seen a figure in the video game industry whose words and promises are so painfully out of touch with his actions (or the actions of his department). Just tell us the truth: that you're not going to invest in first-party games in the way Sony and Nintendo do; that you're going to rely on "AAA" third-party games to keep hardware sales afloat; that you're going to continue to move first-party games to GamePass because subscription dollars from Xbox Live and Game Pass are the future for Xbox; and that upcoming Microsoft-published games will feature a heavy focus on post-launch content and online multiplayer, to ensure the steady flow of those subscription dollars.
It's not even a bad thing! It makes financial sense for the company, even though it turns me off. Just own it.
