Aren't these definitions given by the consumers themselves though?

Not sure, and even less sure if that matters. Still, they exist. And as much as exist gaming genres, there exist levels of engagement and saying someone that play once a week on the facebook is similar gamer to someone playing 4h a day on a dedicated pc or console isn't really precise.

This. We make distinctions because their are in fact distinctions. No matter if people want to ignore it or not.

Forza Horizon is different from Forza Motorsport. They play nothing alike. Forza Horizon 3 is a brilliant racing game and I'm a PlayStation fan and a PC gamer so no Xbox favouring there its just that good.

Forza Motorsport 7 is a good game too. Its not on the level of GT Sport though xD

I never commented on the quality of the games. I'm saying they're not doing anything new to bring in new players or reassure their current ones.

You said that Xbox fans don't have anything to look forward to. I pointed to some that they do.

I don't get why everything has to be new. If an old style is done well that's better than a jerky new style of gameplay. Forza Horizon 3 perfected the art of game style that Forza Horizon brought and its all the better for that to TLOU, a new style of storytelling in games but that was flawed in so many other ways despite being new IP I'd rather play Forza Horizon 3.

What game you think is better isn't what this conversation is about.

Series fatigue is a real thing and does happen unless those releases are spaced out enough such as Mario, Zelda and GTA. But they can only rely on Halo, Forza and Gears for so long as it's clear that playstation's first party is strong because of it's sequels AND new IP and characters.

Ah I get it. Agreed!

1st party games should have been the top priority. Until this happens with sustainability, Microsoft cannot be taken seriously as a gamer's platform.

i share your opinion too.

"Sounds like some Japanese niche stuff to me."

Im not sure why people knock games simply because they come from a non western country.
I remember this with Persona 5,.... people saying it was just "japanese niche crap".... I honestly dont care, fantastic game.

To me, JRPG is a genre, and there are plenty of JRPGs made outside of Japan. And plenty of Japanese studios have made western styled games.

And it’s great that you enjoyed Persona. More power to you.

JRPG is my favorite genre, but i play many other game-genre's too.

Lately, many high quality-games have appeared on PS4 (God Of War, Ni No Kuni 2, Yakuza 6) and in a few weeks the next masterpiece will be released with "Detroit Become Human". That's a big difference between PS4 and Xbox, the theme of variety (great west and japan support). And Sony is investing more in games development - with a lot of effort and high production costs. I miss that completely at microsoft. The good thing is: Phil Spencer has a lot of fun with "God of War" currently, thats cool :D

XBox and Phil Spencer are doing everything wrong to nurture and preserve the brand. It's painful to see and my heart lies with all the Xbox fans who just want good games to be proud about towards the competition. But it just never happens.

I just don't get why they don't sell or delete this division already. They're so obviously out of touch with the market and aren't commited.

To be fair to Spencer, while I don't think he's the greatest to lead the way, it's not entirely his fault. Xbox just isn't the biggest concern for MS. As we enter the next gen, I think they will definitely give it a decent push (as well as ignore their generationless talk from a year or two ago), but if the same fate befalls the XB2, there's a good shot they may shelve the HW division of Xbox. Well, I'd imagine they'll still make controllers for PC.

Phil spence is an ass hat who doesn't know what the hell he's doing. Do you think people want backwards compatible shitty games with poor graphics at 1080p! old games look absolutely trash on the xbox one since they can't do anything with textures ect! it's not like playing old games on pc since you can max all the graphical settings out on pc so it looks a lot better. Also the fact that a few exclusives got cancelled doesn't help.

Then Releasing the one x was also a mistake because all your getting is a bump in resolution over the ps4 pro for an extra £100 with zero exclusives to look good on the one x. The ps4 pro may not be as powerful as the one x but god of war is the best looking game hands down right now! this shows that the ps4 devs know how to optimise and take full of advantage of the ps4 pro's power unlike microsoft and the ps4 pro is worth getting purely because sony have talented devs on their side that make amazing exclusives.

Phil spencer is lost, they think having a resolution bump over the ps4 pro is going to sell well lol, well it ain't! it's about the games, its about devs knowing what there doing with your console and releasing it's full potential. The xbox right now is piss poor and if the ps5 specs are legit it's going to be an absolute beast of a console! having a poweful gpu with the correct cpu to go with it is key and the ps5 has that! the ps4 pro is more balanced than the one x since the great gpu in the one x is getting held back by a very poor cpu it's all about the balance. That's why some games are perform poorer on the one x because it's getting pushed to hard and the cpu ain't able to keep up where as the ps4 pro is at a stable 1440p in some games with stable frame rates.

Ms are like yeah fuck it lets just push the xbox one x to it's limits even though the one x cpu is shit! it's all about the gpu power to them because they haven't a clue! thats why there getting frame drops in titanfall 2, wolfenstein 2 ect!. The one x gpu is more than capable of 4k but it's cpu ain't thats the facts.

The xbox is going to fail the way their carrying on with it, it's only a matter of time. Xbox was a fail compared to the ps2, xbox 360 managed to to be really competitive to the ps3 but the ps3 still managed to edge it in sales now we have the ps4 demolishing the xbox one in sales. The xbox ain't had a good run really has it!. only 1 generation of success the other 2 failures. The 4th try will be worse since people have lost faith in the xbox.

And this is why MS should always have a place in the industry, for people like me who don’t give a crap about most of those PS4 Japanese games. I couldn’t imagine ever considering a David Cage game to be a masterpiece, but more power to you if you enjoy his games. I checked out permanently after Beyond.

I don’t think anyone can deny Sony puts in more of an effort with software and has a wider global reach which results in a more diverse library. But not everyone cares about that. Plenty of us are more than happy with the stellar third party games this gen. If I’m not going to play Nier or Gravity Rush or Ni No Kuni then PS4 having those games is irrelevant to me. But I do still own a PS4, just for the games I do care about, like God of War.

Like I said earlier in the thread I hope MS does come through with their talk of increasing first party output. Third party games have been incredible but I also enjoyed stuff like Ryse.

Seriously? You added an Ouya Master Race option? That is precious and I had to vote for it

In my opinion Phil Spencer does not believe in ever winning this generation anymore and so I think he does not want to commit huge amounts of money in producing 1P AAA games when they won't yield as many sales as he'd hope if the Xbox was the system selling almost 80m units instead of the PS4.
So I'd say don't expect big guns this generation anymore, just side bonuses like Game Pass, Backward Compatibility, 3P support etc.

I'd say Microsoft is certainly working on 1P AAA titles but for their next gen system, that's where Phil wants to take the fight and that's why this gen things are now super quiet and no serious 1P AAA title is going to show up any time soon as he probably wants to put the full force of his army in next gen's productions. I see no other logical reason to explain the AAA desert in which the Xbox currently stands. Of course he cannot publicly admit this so he ends up saying what he said to IGN.

.

I'm in the zone, don't bother me!
